The Master in Hydrodynamics and Ocean engineering
This Master is internationally recognized and accredited by the French Ministry of Higher Education.
The quality of the courses has been recognized within the prestigious Erasmus Mundus framework of the European Commission through the EMship Master.
A large part of the training is dedicated to the practical use of software to solve problems defined above a large variety of numerical methods: boundary elements or spectral methods under potential flow theory, finite-difference or finite-volume techniques in solvers for viscous flows, Smooth Particles Hydrodynamics (SPH).
Language of teaching
The language of instruction and examination is English during the first year including 160 hours of French language courses.
Students can carry out (notably research and development work), in various fields of industry: shipbuilding, sailing and leisure boats, offshore industry, coastal engineering, marine renewable energy.
Students are also involved in lab sessions in the experimental facilities of the Laboratory in Hydrodynamics, Energetics and Environment in Atmosphere(LHEEA) of Centrale Nantes (towing tank, wave tank equipped with a multi-flap wave generator).
A large part of the training is also dedicated to the practical use of software to solve problems defined above through a large variety of numerical methods: boundary elements or spectral methods under potential flow theory, finite-difference or finite-volume techniques in solvers for viscous flows, Smooth Particles Hydrodynamics (SPH).
After their Master thesis (at Centrale Nantes or in other labs in France or abroad), graduate students can prepare a Ph.D. thesis or work in an industrial environment.
- Applicants must hold a Bachelor of Engineering, Bachelor of Science or Equivalent. (Students in their final year of undergraduate study may be admitted on the condition that their bachelor's degrees are awarded before they enroll at Centrale Nantes.)
- Applicants whose native language is not English are required to pass a recognized international English test such as TOEFL (score 220 CBT, 550 PBT, 80 IBT), Cambridge Advanced English Test (score B or higher), IELTS (score 6.5 or higher), TOEIC (800) or another English equivalent test.
An applicant who carried out his study in English is eligible, passing a recognized test provides him more chance to be accepted (official confirmation letter is needed). The English test result must be sent before the deadline for application.
