In 2020, the Department of E8 “Plasma power plants” conducts recruitment in the direction of training masters 04.16.02 “High-tech plasma and power plants”, profile “Plasma power plants” .
The department trains highly qualified specialists in the field of plasma engineering and technology. First of all, these are power plants, such as nuclear and thermonuclear reactors, as well as energy sources on board aircraft, converters of solar energy to electric, electric rocket engines. In addition, these are installations for the production of elements of optoelectronics and energy-saving materials, plasma medical devices, plasma lasers, radiation suppression and generation devices.
The education that the department provides to its graduates is in no way inferior to foreign. The department hosts internships and training by teachers, masters and students from France, China, Myanmar. Graduates of the department study in graduate school and practice at leading universities in the USA, Germany, Great Britain, France, Italy, Canada, Holland, Japan, New Zealand, and Colombia. In recent years, seven graduates of the department received a doctorate in universities in these countries.
Theme of dissertations: ion-plasma technology in microelectronics, mechanical engineering, aircraft manufacturing, as well as controlled thermonuclear fusion.
Students take their usual practice in organizations such as the Kurchatov Institute IAE, RSC Energia, the All-Russian Institute of Aviation Materials, the Research Institute of Vacuum Equipment, and the best clinics in Moscow. Research work of students takes place both in the laboratories of the department, and in enterprises - manufacturers of microelectronics.
The subject of research is extremely wide: from the production of tunneling microscopes to ion polishing of mirrors of huge telescopes, from microelectronics to a thermonuclear reactor, from electric rocket engines to vacuum-plasma gilding of the shrine of Russia.
Graduates of the department work at the institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences, as well as in places of their student practices, at the enterprises of the optical and electronic industries: Lytkarinsky Optical Glass Plant, Krasnogorsk Plant, holdings in Zelenograd, Moscow Region, in the administrative divisions of Roskosmos, OKB "Fakel", which produces electric rocket engines, medical institutions operating plasma medical equipment at defense enterprises. Some graduates have their own enterprises both in Russia and abroad.
The main areas of research and development work of the department are focused on the research and development of plasma tools and technologies for the electronics industry, for the energy sector (various types of energy converters), for the machine-building complex (hardening of metal cutting tools), for the optical industry (glass polishing, creation energy-saving glass), for medical purposes (environmental medical facilities), laser systems, fusion plants.
