How does a graphic designer become a creative director? The Master in Graphic Design proposes that, in an environment in constant transformation, the designer must be versatile and master the different disciplines, processes and languages of graphic design .

The Master in Graphic Design prepares you to be a critical thinker and an agent of progress for society. The contemporary designer asks questions, faces challenges and seeks answers to the problems of tomorrow. Design today makes more sense than ever. It is part of the decision process of any company and has been successfully integrated in areas such as the economy, the business world and the institutional world, in the way that products and services are defined.

The graphic designer is already a regular figure in teams that develop new activities and initiatives, they are in charge of creating integrative strategies, providing any new proposal with conceptual, formal and functional coherence. From verbal and visual identity to digital and audiovisual design, through editorial, packaging and graphic design of the environment, the designer contributes coherence and singularizes each project in a journey that starts from the concept and leads to implementation.

By developing a comprehensive project, the Master in Graphic Design wants to provide designers with a global, current and multidisciplinary vision of the practice of design. This Master is aimed at dynamic and curious students, ready to explore creative paths that are not very crowded and to propose unique and innovative solutions.

Methodology

The Master in Graphic Design program has been conceived from a holistic perspective so that students can bring their practice closer to the figure of the creative director, a professional capable of elaborating a global direction of projects, of moving between different disciplines of graphic design coordinating and supervising teams.

The practice of design requires professionals with a decisive mind, with their own criteria and with a broad perspective of contemporary design. We want the program of this Master to facilitate these questions through experimentation and active and practical learning, with the support of great professionals.

This Master develops a comprehensive project that brings together seven disciplines of graphic design: verbal identity, visual identity, publishing , packaging , signage, digital and audiovisual. Students will receive constant support from teachers throughout the process so that they can make the most of their projects while maintaining the balance between reflection, planning and action.

Teamwork

Currently, the practice of design is developed collectively and we want this transformation to also be reflected in this Master. Working with efficiency, quality and in an intelligent way implies contrasting, collaborating and sharing, that is why, during the Master, each student works as a team with another student in search of meaningful and fruitful collaboration.

Practice is the key

Theory is important; but the true development of the graphic designer culminates in the practice of design. The Master in Graphic Design directly influences this reality and is developed from an eminently practical perspective: the experience offers us most of the design responses.

Close to reality

This Master has been developed as a smooth transition process between the academic and professional world. For this reason, we want students to develop the best of themselves, to maintain their motivation and create a work environment close to that experienced in a professional environment.

The Master's teaching staff is made up of prestigious design professionals who play an active role in the development of students. Their experience and knowledge will allow students to have constant advice in the search for solutions, in their own decision-making and in the development of their criteria.

Program

The Master in Graphic Design approaches the practice of graphic design from multiple perspectives and through different supports and formats. We believe and seek the versatility of the graphic designer, who must have the ability to adapt to a changing profession in which he will take on new capabilities in different professional settings.

The course is structured around different projects and teaching formats:

Strategy and team building

Each course is articulated around a current topic, proposed by the directors of the Master, which will allow students to explore and experience how graphic design can be a tool for change and progress in society. Students will work in pairs, and each team will define their own brief taking the proposed topic as a starting point.

Graphic systems

It is a practical exercise, prior to the launch of the Master Project, which brings students closer to the idea of globality and shows them how to develop the common elements that are the basis of any multidisciplinary graphic project.

Master Project

We apply a problem-solving dynamic, close to that of the professional world, to develop in parallel 7 areas or disciplines of graphic design: verbal identity, visual identity, editorial, graphic environment, packaging, digital and audiovisual. It is about emulating a comprehensive graphic project.

While we delve into the versatility that the designer must adopt before the different needs, environments, processes and languages, we develop a global and multidisciplinary vision of design practice.

Typography and global vision

The development of the Project demands constant assistance and support during the course. Students have the opportunity to ask their questions to different experts who will help them carry out their Project, both conceptually and formally. These consultancies refer to the great common aspects in any graphic project.

Workshops

The workshops allow us to complement and deepen knowledge of other disciplines of graphic design. They are interactive experiences developed by recognized professionals and specialists.

The design business

Graphic design is not just about concept, shape, color and typography; It also has an aspect linked to the business: make good presentations to clients, establish human relationships, work as a team, look for opportunities, invoice profitable jobs and projects ... In the capsules we cover topics that are part of the daily life of graphic design and that Students should dominate if they decide that this is their livelihood.

Showcases and Case Studies

Regularly, we organize meetings with local designers who, through their experiences, allow us to identify current phenomena and obtain new points of view, reflections and references that will expand our knowledge of the practice of graphic design.

International conferences

We invite internationally renowned designers to hold a conference that allows students to learn about their experiences, projects and Case Studies in different fields of graphic design.

Practical information

Editions

Each academic year two editions of the Master are held, one in Spanish and the other in English.

  • MDG (Master in Graphic Design) is the Spanish edition.
  • MGD (Master in Graphic Design) is the English edition.

Number of students

In each edition of the Master a maximum of 20 students will be accepted.

Once registration is open, candidates will be selected as pre-registrations become effective.

Who is it for?

Preferably higher graduates in graphic design and professional profiles with accredited experience. Exceptionally, according to their portfolio and trajectory, graduates in communication, fine arts and advertising are accepted. The candidate must be efficient and autonomous in handling graphic design software.

Languages

A Spanish edition (MDG) and an English edition (MGD).

In both editions, most of the workshops use English as the vehicular language with the support of Spanish according to the needs of the audience. Almost all the conferences and some showcases or case studies are conducted in English.
