Program Description

Master in Electrical Power Engineering

The study program Electrical Power Engineering will enable the graduate to broaden their knowledge in the field of heavy current electrical engineering and power engineering, and further deepen it in the chosen specialization. Thanks to the acquired knowledge, the graduate will be ready to solve complex technical problems, which brings new technologies, new requirements for industrial systems control and a higher degree of production automation. Graduates will acquire knowledge in systems for the security of electricity supply, requirements for the quality of electricity, EMC equipment, and industrial systems, the use and consumption of electrical energy, the possibility of using electrical machines and power electronic systems and the basics of electrothermal and lighting technology. They will know the problems of the influence of electrical equipment on the power system and the principles of minimizing negative phenomena.

Specialization Power Electronic Technologies and Drives

The graduate of the specialization gains knowledge during the study especially in:

  • New structures of power semiconductor inverters and drives, inverters and drives with increased energy efficiency and high power density.
  • Electrical systems for vehicles, robots and manipulators, industrial and energy technologies, power networks and mechatronic systems.
  • Necessary for the design of power electronic technologies and electric drives and modern methods of their control.

Specialization Electric Machines

The graduate of the specialization gains knowledge during the study especially in:

  • New principles, materials, technologies of production of modern electric machines and their constructional arrangements.
  • Cooling and heat dissipation methods.
  • Modern methods of their electromagnetic, thermal and mechanical design.
  • Simulation and modeling of operating parameters of modern electrical machines for different load modes.

Specialization Electrical Power Engineering

The graduate of the specialization gains knowledge during the study especially in:

  • The area of production, transmission, distribution, and use of electrical and thermal energy.
  • Operational and failure states of the electricity system and will be ready to address increased demands on operational management of electricity networks in connection with the increasing share of decentralized sources and with increasing requirements for reliability and quality of electricity supply.

A graduate focusing on the operation and management of the power system will be able to design individual elements of electrical networks and protection and security systems and gain deeper knowledge in the field of modeling and simulation of operational and fault conditions.

A graduate focusing on technologies of electrical and thermal energy production will acquire knowledge of the operation and design of conventional and unconventional sources technologies, including technologies designed to improve the energy efficiency of systems and reduce the impact of the energy industry on the environment.

Terms for admission to master study

Applicants for master studies at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen (FEE) are graduates of a bachelor study and are admitted based on the results obtained from this study.

Admission without an examination

Applicants can be admitted without an admission exam based on a score evaluation. Points are granted for:

  • the weighted average achieved in bachelor studies,
  • documented professional activities during bachelor studies,
  • result of the state final examination and defense of the bachelor thesis.

Based on the granted points, 60 - 70% of students are admitted.

Admission based on an interview

The admission interview must be completed by the following candidates:

  • who have achieved a weighted bachelor study average of more than 2.5,
  • who are applying to study branches of Electronics and Applied Informatics and Telecommunication and Multimedia Systems,
  • who have graduated bachelor's degree programs outside the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen.

The aim of the admission interview is to verify the candidate's prerequisites to study the given branch and his / her complex assessment.

Foreigners applying to study in the Czech language must submit a Certification of Czech language exam - level B1 according to SERR.

Faculty of Electrical Engineering is a part of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen, which was established on September 28, 1991, with a history going to the year 1949. According to the main research and development activities, the Faculty is divided into five departments and one R&D center: Department of Applied Electronics and Telecommunication (KAE), Department of Electrical Power Engineering and Environmental Engineering (KEE), Department of Technologies and Measurement (KET), Department of Electromechanics and Power Electronics (KEV), Department of Theory of Electrical Engineering (KTE), Regional Innovation Centre for Electrical Engineering. In the field of educational activities, the faculty provides university education in bachelor, master and doctoral study programs. It also provides its services in the field of life-long education. In the field of research, development, and innovation, the faculty focuses on solving basic and applied research projects. The Faculty has long-term experience in solving a number of national and international grant projects and contract research projects. The Faculty has been demonstrating in the long term the ability to successfully apply the results of its research and development activities in practice - this can be documented by a number of industrial applications that have been created on the basis of long-term cooperation with significant companies beyond the Pilsen region.
