Montessori education is a pedagogical proposal of wide recognition at an international level. Current scientific research continues to validate this educational method day by day as a set of elements that help children in their holistic development of mind, body and emotions.

Being a scientific method based on the systematic observation of the real nature of children, it is adapted to the specific needs of each stage of development of the person.

International Montessori Institute (IMI) imparts the principles and practice of Montessori Education for different ages from a classical Montessori perspective with the aim of contributing with a global pedagogical proposal to the quality of education and treatment of children.


Teaching Team

International Montessori Institute (IMI) is a Montessori training center with a clear objective: to offer a classic and rigorous Montessori training based on the original sources of Dr. Maria Montessori and adapted to current educational needs.

The purpose of IMI is to offer a training that is firmly connected to the legacy of Dr. Montessori, bringing together in a single training center the best of the Italian and Anglo-Saxon tradition.

For this purpose, IMI selects trainers from both profiles, thus offering the students a broad and unique vision of Montessori Education.

Our trainers have been carefully selected for their extensive international experience, both in private and public schools, with the aim of transmitting all the wealth of the Montessori Method in different social environments.

This interesting combination of trainers makes IMI a unique Montessorian meeting point in the world, which generates an inter-Montessori dialogue that ensures fidelity to the ideas and vision of Dr. Maria Montessori.


General objectives

Our goal is to ensure that the student acquires all the necessary tools for the successful application of the Montessori method in the classroom. For this, we help the teacher to live the educational practice from the harmony and satisfaction in the day to day.

The intention is to:

  • Master the implementation strategies of the Montessori method.
  • Obtain a general and interdisciplinary overview of all curricular areas.
  • Live the educational practice positioning the child in the center of learning and sharing with him / her the pleasure for education.
  • Facilitate a space for critical reflection on educational practice, based on the latest scientific evidence.
  • Know the learning potentials of the brain and the neuroscientific bases that validate Montessori Education.
  • Manipulate the Montessori Materials by understanding their objectives in depth.
  • Develop a prepared environment suitable for this age stage.


Specific objectives

  • Master the theoretical basis of Montessori education and its objectives.
  • Understand deeply the characteristics and functioning of the environment prepared for learning.
  • Master the implementation strategies of the Montessori Method: know how to design a Montessori school classroom or any alternative prepared environment.
  • Obtain a general and interdisciplinary overview of all curricular areas (Practical Life, Sensory, Language, Mathematics, History, Biology, Geography, Music and Art)
  • Master the curriculum of each of the subjects and the logical sequencing of all activities.
  • Manipulate Montessori materials with fluidity, understanding their objectives in depth and mastering the techniques of presentations.
  • Know how to establish a classroom environment that encourages learning and helps children develop their executive functions.
  • Develop the role of the Montessori teacher that puts the child in contact with the prepared environment and helps him / her to increase their potential.
  • Understand how, in that context, observation is at the base of Montessori Education.
  • Assume the importance of emotional education and master the necessary techniques to promote it.
  • Know the learning potentials of the brain and the neuroscientific bases that validate Montessori Education.

Currently there is a great demand throughout the world for professionals with solid Montessori training to launch new projects, given that many families want a "different" and more respectful education for their children.

This program is specifically designed for all those interested in the primary stage from 6 to 12 years old. The acquired knowledge is applicable by a wide range of professionals.

Learning Methodology: All areas of the Montessori Practice are focused from a practical perspective of deep personal work, thus ensuring the acquisition and understanding of all the tools necessary to apply Montessori Education in life and in the classroom.

A learning process accompanied by a continuous evaluation and the development of the personal Montessori albums of each student. Montessori albums are a classic tool of a good Montessori teacher and accompany him throughout his professional life.


Curriculum

Fundamentals of Montessori Pedagogy

Montessori Philosophy: broad theoretical foundations rooted in the scientific observation of human nature.


Language

Language is the backbone of community life and learning.

In the primary stage children learn to build sentences, identifying the different components of sentences. The syntax is transformed into something tangible. Geometric shapes of colors that represent the verb, the subject, the adjective, etc., all this sensory material allows the child to learn the differences between an adverb and a noun.


Cosmic

Awakening the admiration of children towards the natural and cultural world that surrounds them. Significant experiences as a basis for scientific discovery. Develop a deep respect for the whole of humanity and nature. History, geography, biology, art and music as an interrelated whole.


Mathematics

Dr. Montessori picks up the concept of the "mathematical mind" of Blaise Pascal and transforms it into a didactic reality.

Concrete materials that accompany the natural process of the mind towards mathematical abstraction.

All the activities and presentations necessary to offer a solid mathematical foundation to children.


Geometry

Geometry materials allow, among other things, that the child build patterns, which is crucial for the reasoning mind.


Observation Techniques

Montessori Education has been developed from the scientific observation of children's nature.

The importance of training this skill on which classroom management is based in a Montessori prepared environment.


The Montessori Practice (in person)

All presentations of Montessori materials and activities offered by expert trainers in each Montessori area.

Gradual development of the personal Montessori albums of each student in dialogue with the trainers.

Five weeks, each summer, from Monday to Friday, in intensive morning and afternoon hours.

The third and final face-to-face phase also includes the final exams for obtaining the diploma.


The Montessori Theory (online)

The complete Montessori theory enriched with contents of Educational Didactics and Neuroscience.

Each subject is offered by a specialized trainer in the different areas of study.

Continuous evaluation activities that allow a solid acquisition of the contents.


Structure

This training is structured in four phases, three of them face-to-face and one online.

The face-to-face phases are held at the Mundet Campus of the University of Barcelona, ​​where there will be direct contact with a Montessori environment prepared with the different original Montessori materials of each area.

The theoretical phase will be taught through the IMI virtual campus, where the student will have access to all the theoretical contents 24 hours a day.


1st Phase: Montessori Practice Phase I

(In person):

From June 25, 2018 to July 27, 2018.

1.1: Presentations of materials and activities of each curricular area by the trainers.


2nd Phase: Theory

(On-line):

From November 5, 2018 to April 30, 2019.

2.1: Discover and explore the theoretical basis on which the Montessori practice is based.

2.2: From January 15 to February 15, 2019. Support to face-to-face subjects: Online help for the development of Montessori albums and personalized resolution of doubts.


3rd Phase: Montessori Practice Phase II

(In person):

From June 25, 2019 to July 26, 2019.

3.1: Presentations of materials and activities of each curricular area by trainers.

3.2: (Online) From January 15 to February 15, 2020: Support to classroom subjects: Online help for the development of Montessori albums and personalized resolution of doubts.


4th Phase: Montessori Practice Phase III

(In person):

From June 29, 2020 to July 30, 2020.

4.1: Curriculum area week.

4.2: Supervised practices with material.

4.3: Album presentation.

4.4: Final exam.


Observation Practices

90 hours of observation practices, freely distributed throughout the course, an opportunity to experience the reality of the Montessori classrooms and to train various observation techniques. They will be carried out in centers that apply the Montessori methodology.

The Montessori method can be implemented as a whole and completely or introduced little by little into traditional education environments, thus enriching the daily educational practice.

Titling

Double Degree

Students who successfully pass the training will obtain the Master's degree in Montessori Education, primary specialty (6-12 years) from the University of Barcelona (UB) and the IMI Montessori Teacher Certificate for the primary stages (6-12 years) ) years issued by the International Montessori Institute . Qualification with international recognition and validity.

University training is required in order to obtain the Master's degree in Montessori Education from the University of Barcelona (UB). Otherwise, you can choose to obtain a University Extension Certificate.
