Program Description

Master in Computer Science

University of Gothenburg Department of Computer Science and Engineering

An international programme where you can choose between five different tracks - each of them corresponding to internationally recognised research at our department.

Computer science (CS) is the study of the theory of information and computation, and its implementation and application in computer systems. Computer science has many sub-fields; some emphasise the computation of specific results (such as computer graphics), while others (such as the theory of algorithms) relate to properties of computational problems. Still others focus on the challenges in implementing computations. For example, programming language theory studies approaches to describing computations, while computer programming applies specific programming languages to solve specific computational problems.

What is the programme about?

Computer Science (CS) is a full-spectrum Master's programme that provides a cutting-edge higher education in a wide range of areas, including the Science of Programming, Programming Languages, Algorithmics, Program Analysis, Databases, Logical Methods, Verification, Dependability, Security, Distributed Computing, Data Communication, Digital Systems, Computer Architecture, Computer Graphics, and Interaction Design. They correspond to areas within which we have strong, internationally recognised research groups, which are the driving force behind the education.

What do you learn?

You will be equipped with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required for a successful professional career in a large variety of information technology areas, both in industry and in academia. In particular, the programme enables you as a future IT professional to conceive, design, and implement systems which work correctly, are maintainable, and reliable.

What jobs will you get?

After graduation, you will be highly qualified in advanced software engineering, where you can work as a programmer, system architect, system developer, and project leader. Our emphasis on modelling, design, and on conceptual abilities will provide you with a great flexibility, such that you can adjust to emerging job markets in a wide range of IT related areas.

Who should apply?

The Master's Programme in CS is an international full-time programme open to both Swedish and international applicants. The programme is taught in English and comprises 2 years. Admitted applicants typically hold a Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent, and have a solid academic record.

This school offers programs in:
