Introduction
The Master’s Degree Program in Chemistry offered by the University of Parma provides comprehensive education and training focused on the most modern aspects of chemistry.
The courses offered range from classic synthesis & catalysis to more challenging subjects such as environmental sustainability, molecular biology, advanced materials, and nanoscience.
Curriculum
The Programme
The Second-cycle Degree in Chemistry has a choice of two curricula, i.e. Biomolecular Chemistry and Materials Chemistry. In both cases, the Programme includes 12 courses involving theoretical and experimental approaches.
The program includes a selection of elective subjects and a six-month internship which requires compiling a final detailed report (dissertation) and its presentation and discussion before an examination board.
A variety of professional opportunities are available on completion of this Programme. In addition to traditional careers in Research&Development and Quality-Control laboratories in the chemical, pharmaceutical, and food domains, there are prospects to be found in all industrial sectors which involve extensive use of chemicals, and in analysis laboratories, including the ones dealing with environmental protection and emissions control. Alternatively, students can work as freelance professionals or apply for a Ph.D. program.
Our Programme is constantly focused on the industrial and productive world, and this is reflected in graduate employability, which is well above 90% in the short term.
Internationalization is an important feature of this Programme as we aim to prepare graduates for the global market. For this reason, on the one hand, we are making an effort to increase the number of subjects taught in English, and on the other, we encourage student mobility by offering opportunities to study abroad, both within the EU (through the ERASMUS+ Programme) and in extra-EU Countries. In addition, we are presently also offering a Double Degree program in Chemistry with the MSc Degree in Chemistry at the University of Cape Town (South Africa) and from 2019/2020 a Double Degree program MSc Degree in Chemical Technology at Twente University (NL).
Double Degree options
The Master Degree offers its students a wide range of double degree options, carried out in collaboration with its prestigious European and international partners, among which:
- University of Cape Town (South Africa)
- Twente University (The Netherlands)
