This course aims to introduce the basic mathematical concept and to develop arguments presented in the introductory section in order to provide students with operational tools to be applied both during this course and in other courses where quantitative methods are used, namely in Financial Mathematics or Statistics. At the end of this course, students will have mastered the appropriate tools to better understand both mathematical and quantitative aspects of economic models.

Teaching Methodology

CSSS offers blended study with an elevated level of autonomy in time and place. Blended learning is an education program that combines online digital media with traditional classroom methods students can download the teaching and learning materials from CSSS and work on them when and where it suits them. They work autonomously in time and place but are always in contact with faculty, fellow students and the CSSS’s support services. While students still attend "brick-and-mortar" CSSS with a teacher present, face-to-face classroom practices are combined with computer-mediated activities regarding content and delivery. Through the personal customized learning environment on CSSS, students receive the latest updates, e-mails, and all the information which are necessary to concentrate fully on the studies. Exercises and tests to check the personal progress, plus learning forums and moderated chats, further facilitate the blending study process.

*For Non-EU students, it’s important that they to apply for the students visa and their presence in Spain during study is must.

Module Overview

1st YEAR MODULE

  • LAW AND ECONOMICS
    This course introduces students to the economics of law. A theoretical analysis will focus on the concept of legal efficiency by using both positive and normative theories
  • ENVIRONMENTAL ECONOMICS
    This course aims to introduce students to the analysis of the relationship between the economy and the environment.
  • BUSINESS HISTORY
    The course examines the origin and evolution of modern industrial enterprise throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
  • PLANNING AND CONTROL
    This course aims to provide students with a wide knowledge of the characteristics and critical issues of the management control and planning as well as programming and controlling cycles.
  • CORPORATE BUSINESS STRATEGY
    This course aims to study the principles and methodologies which make up a firm’s operational strategies and policy decisions.
  • ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
    The aim of this course is to introduce theories and policy issues in development economics with the objective of preparing students for a complete understanding

2nd YEAR MODULE

  • FINANCIAL STATEMENT ANALYSIS
    The increasing complexity and competition in the markets, the globalization of the world economy and the development of modern technologies and digital markets.
  • COMPANY AND BUSINESS LAW
    This course aims to provide students with a deeper knowledge of Italian company law by covering subjects related to company law.
  • TAX LAW (Advanced)
    The course aims to provide an in-depth study of company income and relative taxation.
  • ECONOMIC STATISTICS
    This course aims to provide students with advanced knowledge in the management of all the sources of statistical data, index numbers and time series.
  • HISTORY OF ECONOMIC THOUGHT
    This course aims to analyse the gradual development of the theories and economic ideas in a critical way.
  • ENGLISH LANGUAGE (B2 LEVEL)
    To understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in his/her field of specialization.
  • INNOVATION MANAGEMENT
    This course deals with the analysis of the innovation management procedure.
  • HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
    This course aims to provide knowledge, skills and managerial tools pertaining to the human resources management.
  • ASSESSMENT
    Final Examination

Entry Requirement

CSSS welcomes qualified applicants with no discrimination towards their gender, age, cultural, ethnic, religious and racial backgrounds.

Admission at CSSS sets minimum criteria which have been designed to identify applicants who have sound academic potential and who show creativity, critical thinking, social and moral values, evidence of English language proficiency and strong motivation.

Mature Student

English language requirements

  • You must have competence in English language to study with us. The most commonly accepted evidence of English language ability is IELTS 5.5 (with minimum 5.0 in all components).
  • If you don't meet our minimum English language requirements, student must take CSSS online English test.

Grant

Students are eligible to apply for the grant if they have been offered a place to study on a full-time course at Castelldefels School of Social Science in Barcelona;

Merit-based Grants

Open For: Based primarily on grades, academic scholarships reward students with strong academic performance.Candidates should also describe how the academic merit and professional success has provided them with leadership potential.

Need-based Grants

Need-based scholarships are awarded based on student or student’s parents’ financial background. These need-based scholarships are designed to aid with studies when students or their guardians are not able to afford tuition and fees.

Women in Business

There’s been great progress in bridging the gap between equal rights of men and women — but we still have a way to go. The Women in Business Grant is for female applicants who have work or internship experience or have led a team in an international environment. For this scholarship, CSSS is seeking female leaders who have experience and understand today’s global working environment.

The Accredited Disability Grant is a discretionary fund intended to help support students with disabilities who are not eligible for statutory funding.
