Program description

General purpose

Form human resources with a broad vision and with the ability to identify problems and basic processes applied in the different disciplines of the biological sciences.

Specific objectives

  • Form human resources for the realization of research or innovative application of scientific and / or technological knowledge.
  • Prepare professors in the areas of biosciences and natural resources with the ability to transmit the knowledge acquired through publications, lectures, conferences at meetings and teaching.
  • Train personnel to venture into the development of biotechnologies so that they improve the productive activities of the State of Sonora and the Country.

Egress Profile

The Master's Program in Biosciences will guarantee the acquisition of the degree of the following basic competences:

  • Systematic comprehension of a field of study and mastery of research skills and methods related to that field.
  • Ability to conceive, design or implement and adopt a substantial research process.
  • Ability to communicate with the academic and scientific community and with society in general about their fields of knowledge in the languages of habitual use, Spanish and English.
  • Ability to foster, in academic and professional contexts, scientific and technological advancement within a knowledge-based society.

How to enter this postgraduate course?

Entry requirements

To be considered a candidate to enter the Master in Biosciences, the applicant must submit the following documents and meet the following requirements:

Documents:

  • Application for admission to the graduate
  • Professional title and / or diploma of degree, or record of professional examination.
  • Birth certificate, official identification (elector's credential and CURP) and three child-sized photographs.
  • Curriculum with vouchers.
  • Three letters of recommendation from recognized academics.
  • Letter of acceptance and research proposal endorsed by a professor member of the basic academic core of this postgraduate course.

Requirements:

  • Commitment letter of exclusive dedication to the Master's program in Biosciences.
  • To be entitled to a bachelor's degree related to the biosciences with a minimum average of 80 (or equivalent).
  • Demonstrate sufficiency of the English language. Official TOEFL document, 450 points.
  • Perform EXANI-III knowledge and aptitude exam of CENEVAL (with a minimum of 1000 points).

Additional requirements for foreign students:

  • Migratory student form FM2 or FM9 (2 copies).
  • Applicants whose native language is not Spanish must demonstrate a knowledge of Spanish (Diplomas of Spanish as a Foreign Language, DELE).

What do you need to get the degree?

Qualification requirements

To obtain a master's degree, you must:

  • Approve the total credits (with a minimum of 80) and meet the other requirements established in the curriculum.
  • Have developed and approved the writing of his thesis.
  • Demonstrate that you have submitted a research article related to your thesis topic and be reviewed by an indexed scientific journal.
  • Pass the degree exam before a jury named ex profeso.
  • Comply with the provisions and requirements demanded by the School Services Office for the issuance of the degree.

Titration options

To obtain the degree it is necessary to have covered the credits corresponding to the postgraduate syllabus, have prepared and approved their written thesis work, and the degree examination, consisting of the oral defense of the thesis before a jury appointed by the Academic Committee of the Postgraduate in Biosciences.

The registration cost of applicants to enter the Universidad de Sonora is announced annually along with the first entry notice.

Registration and Tuition Fees

Students, when enrolling in any of the graduate programs, must cover the corresponding fees according to the current minimum wage in the city of Hermosillo, as established in the Quotas Regulation.
