With a challenging curriculum in the fields of financial markets, financial institutions, corporate finance, and quantitative methods, the MBF offers a high-quality education in both theory and application. The curriculum is designed in such a way as to ensure that students are able to acquire the foundations in finance in the first semester. Subsequently, students are flexible to select courses according to their individual preferences. Various programming courses are also offered throughout the curriculum.
The MBF community is truly international with students from 80 different countries entering the program each year. We encourage and enable our students to supplement their academic curriculum with international experiences, such as exchange semesters, international research seminars, and double degree programs with leading universities all over the world.
The MBF program is offered by the School of Finance of the University of St. Gallen, one of the largest financial groups in continental Europe. Professors are internationally recognized for their leading academic research and their commitment to excellence in teaching.

In order to match your potential with opportunities, the MBF and the Career Service Centre support you in planning your career. Apart from one-on-one career counseling, various recruiting events are offered to students, such as the HSG Banking Days and the HSG TALENTS Conference. Furthermore, students independently organize recruiting events to assist you in starting your career. Selected events include Consulting Days and Private Equity Day.
The MBF offers high-quality education in Financial Markets, Institutions, Corporate Finance, and Quantitative Methods.
The MBF program is structured in such a way as to ensure that students are able to acquire their basic knowledge in the compulsory courses of the first semester. In the second and third semesters, students select core electives and contextual courses according to their individual preferences and thus determine the orientation of their studies themselves. Like this, the MBF curriculum guarantees the utmost flexibility and freedom of choice.
The MBF program is a full-time study program, requires 90 ECTS and takes three semesters.
The core studies comprise the three compulsory courses, the core electives, including a research seminar and the Master’s thesis. Students may design their individual curriculum according to their preferences and choose to focus on corporate finance, risk management & insurance, quantitative methods & data science, banking & the financial economy, financial markets, or alternative investments. Students have the possibility to show a specific subject track in the Master's degree in the form of a Diploma Supplement. The prerequisite for this is the completion of at least 16 ECTS and the writing of the Master's thesis in the corresponding subject track.
The contextual studies are a common feature of all programs at the University of St. Gallen and give students the opportunity to develop themselves intellectually and culturally beyond the scope of their core studies. While students can choose courses that are related to finance, they are also free to take classes from other fields in order to see the bigger picture.
MBF Admission Criteria
Recognized degree with at least 180 ECTS credit points.

Academic and Personal Requirements
The MBF program is intended for holders of an excellent Bachelor's degree in business, economics, or in the hard sciences (e.g., mathematics or physics). You should possess strong analytical skills and be ambitious to solve challenging tasks related to financial market theory, institutions, or quantitative finance. Equally important, we expect you to be an effective communicator who is able to explain findings from the frontline of academic research to the practical world. In the MBF program, our graduates will obtain high-quality education in both theory and application.
