Who is it for?

This master's degree is aimed at graduates in engineering, as well as technical engineers or higher engineers in the areas of mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, automotive engineering or other degrees related to the industrial area who seek to specialize in the automotive area.

This Master will train you as an automotive engineer who masters both the management and definition of the productive environment and the design and manufacture of vehicles and components. Thus, you will acquire solid knowledge in various fields of engineering such as:

  • Advanced management and production systems (improvement of efficiency)
  • New materials and processes (vehicle lightening, consumption reduction, increased safety and comfort)
  • Current and future technologies used in vehicles and which ones (new propulsion systems, interoperability, reduction of emissions)
  • Numerical simulation tools used for the design, calculation and manufacture of vehicles and components.

The multidisciplinary and integral nature of the training you will receive will allow you not only to participate in the development of projects, but also to direct them.

Dual Training

This training is taught in dual modality and represents an innovative and unique future approach. The dual modality involves combining the development and acquisition of skills in both the university and the company.

In addition to work and classes at the university, in the first module you will face real challenges proposed by automotive companies, working from the AIC itself, a unique center of value generation for the automotive sector based on an open innovation concept . In the third module the students of the master will move to companies or technological centers of the sector to develop a full-time stay.

Spain is the 2nd European vehicle manufacturer and 8th worldwide. The Basque Country has 300 companies that bill more than 16 billion euros and employ more than 75,000 people around the world. These global figures mean that almost 50% of the total turnover of the automotive components sector in the State is carried out in the Basque Country, where 38,000 people work.

The Basque sector of automotive components is one of the most competitive and innovative with the most advanced levels of management in the world where Basque companies such as GESTAMP or CIE AUTOMOTIVE are among the main suppliers of assemblers such as TOYOTA, RENAULT, BMW, GRUPO PSA, etc.

For this reason, the University of Deusto, together with the AIC-Automotive Intelligence Center, have jointly developed this Master's Degree. The Basque sector of automotive components is one of the most competitive and innovative with the most advanced levels of management in the world where Basque companies such as GESTAMP or CIE AUTOMOTIVE are among the main suppliers of assemblers such as TOYOTA, RENAULT, BMW, GRUPO PSA, etc.

The manufacturers of components (TIER's) and assemblers of vehicles (OEM's) look for the continuous improvement of the quality of their products at the same time that the efficiency of the productive processes is maximized.

To meet this demand, the Master's Degree in Automotive Design and Manufacturing (MUDFA) is presented and it is done with the aim of training automotive specialists with solid knowledge of the sector. This master gives solution to this complex scenario, forming excellent professionals and with a deep knowledge of the reality of the automotive industry that is achieved thanks to the dual nature of the training.

New challenges in the sector

For the coming years, the main challenges that companies that work for the automotive sector will have to face are:

  • The electrification of the vehicle, that is, smarter vehicles, regardless of the type of engine they use, even being able to take control of the vehicle in certain situations.
  • Improvement of efficiency, both in the factories along the value chain and in the behavior of the vehicle. This will lead to the use of advanced materials in the vehicle, such as carbon fiber, special steels, biomaterials, etc., and to the adaptation of the processes in the factories to be able to use these materials in a mass production base.

For these challenges, specialized people will be needed in areas such as design, testing and production, with a better understanding of the behavior of the materials used during the process and in the automobile, and the interrelationships between these new materials and the "traditional" ones. they will still be used in the car (that is, joining techniques, electromagnetic interference ...).
