The MAS interdisciplinary program offers expert knowledge and analytical-synthetic skills focused on modern history and current developments of Europe, Eurasia, and North America. The program provides the students with tools for social science analysis and allows them to build their own thematic (Transition; European Integration; Globalising US Studies) and territorial profile according to their individual needs and future career plans.

Description of verification and evaluation criteria

In addition to the application, the following must be provided:

  1. Copy of a diploma to show completed Bachelor's or Master's studies, or confirmation of ongoing studies in the academic year that those studies will be completed;
  2. Transcript of marks and academic results from previous higher education studies;
  3. CV;
  4. Motivation letter;
  5. Two references (at least one academic).

Confirmation of studies may be substituted with a transcript of marks, provided that these are from the same academic year as the application.

All documents which are not originally in Czech, Slovak or English must be accurately translated into English.

The admissions committee will assess applicants on the basis of the documents submitted and give them a ranking from 1 - 100 points. The point limit for accepting applicants is set by the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences of Charles University. A pre-condition for being accepted is the completion of higher education.

Conditions for admission

Admission to Master's studies is conditioned by completed secondary education confirmed by a school-leaving certificate. Admission to Post-Bachelor studies (Master's program) is likewise conditioned by completed education in any type of study program.

Career Prospect

Graduates from the Master in Area Studies program are endowed with internationally recognizable multi-disciplinary training in the study of international affairs. They can produce professionally and formally fair texts and are capable of qualified comments on the developments of states and societies of the studied regions.

Due to practical internships during their study, they adopt basic professional skills for the subsequent job. Because of that, they are demanded and well-assessed employees in the state administration, diplomacy, NGOs and international institutions as well as in the research and development field, in the private sphere and mass-media.
