The National Agency of Accreditation (A3ES) accredited the Master in Geosciences in 2013 for 6 years, and recognized that this course have a “Qualified faculty and full-time basis, exclusively made up of doctors with significant teaching experience”.
The main goal of the Geosciences course intends to give advanced training in classic and emergent domains of geosciences. It is expected that this master could provide professionals with competencies to work in different areas of geosciences.
The Geociences course follows the guidelines of the Bologna Declaration and is organized in four semesters. The course has a strong fieldwork and laboratory component. The curriculum includes a common core with 5 curricular units: Computer Resources and GIS Applied to Geosciences; Relief and Landscape Evolution; Research Technics in Geosciences; Characterization and Assessment of the Environmental Impact; Mapping. For each one of the branches there are 5 curricular units of specialization.
Branche External Dynamics and Global Change: Depositional Environments; Management and Recovering of Fluvial and Coastal Systems; Morphodynamics; Natural Hazards; Global Change and Land Use.
Branche Geological Heritage and Geoconservation: Inventorying and Characterization of Geological Heritage; Management and Valuation of Geological Heritage; Protected Areas and Land-use Planning; Geological Itineraries; Geotourism and Geoparks.
Branche Valuation of Geological Resources: Geological Prospection; Ore Deposits; Management of Underground Waters; Mining Waste Equilibrium and Evolution; Industrial Rocks and Minerals
