The Master of Science in Plant Biotechnology Area Toxicology is a postgraduate program recognized by its HIGH QUALITY in the level of Consolidation granted by CONACYT in the National Program of Postgraduate Quality (PNPC).

This is a postgraduate program committed to the training of highly trained human resources in the areas of Plant Biotechnology or Toxicology, thus collaborating in the development of these areas of knowledge in the state and in the country.

The program offers a common trunk and two areas of terminal specialization, in addition the educational experiences offered are not exclusive to the classroom. There is an important component of practical work in the laboratory, of research and search of individual information on the part of the students. We do not count on subject seriation, except Research Seminars that are tutorial courses.

The main educational experience of the program is the planning and execution of a thesis work by the student. It also promotes the work of research stays of students at national level preferably international, in laboratories other than the one that is attached to their thesis work. This both inside and outside the institution or even outside the state or country. There have been cases of students who completed or complete their thesis work outside the UAA Examples of this are theses held at the CINVESTAV-IPN Campus Guanajuato and in institutions of the United States of America or Canada.

GOALS

General objective

  • Train professionals, professors and researchers, with a high academic level in the areas of Plant Biotechnology or Toxicology.
  • To train the graduates to search, acquire and integrate with scientific criteria the knowledge of their specialty and those of related disciplines.
  • Encourage graduates to rigorously analyze scientific information, stimulating their ability to update and enrich their knowledge, as well as to identify problems and propose solutions.
  • To train graduates in the use of techniques and research methods applicable to their specialty, so that they participate in the generation of knowledge.
  • Encourage their ability to adapt or develop methodologies, as well as to solve practical problems in their area of ​​knowledge.

Particular objectives of the area of ​​Plant Biotechnology

To train professionals capable of:

  • Describe the biochemical, physiological and molecular principles that govern plants.
  • To efficiently manage techniques and methods related to Plant Biotechnology.
  • Design and develop projects of research and technological development in the area of ​​Plant Biotechnology.
  • Develop methods and strategies aimed at solving problems related to agricultural productivity and obtaining of plant products through the use of Biotechnology.

Particular objectives of the Toxicology area

To train professionals capable of:

  • To analyze the actions and the harmful effects produced by the toxic substances on the alive beings.
  • To handle techniques and analytical methods related to toxicology efficiently.
  • Participate in the identification and evaluation of toxicity risks due to environmental or occupational exposure to xenobiotics, as well as to develop preventive and corrective measures for problems of environmental contamination and toxicity in the work environment.
  • Collaborate in the generation of knowledge of the toxicological area through the development of research projects.
  • Foster the formation of a social conscience for the rational use of natural resources and the proper handling of toxic substances in agricultural, industrial and domestic activities.

Requirements for obtaining the degree

In order to obtain the Master of Science degree, the following must be fulfilled:

  • To accredit all subjects, seminars, activities indicated in the curriculum.
  • Obtain a minimum grade point average of 8.0.
  • Submit and defend the degree work at a public grade examination and approve it no more than six months after graduating from the program.

Egress's profile

General

Knowledge

  • The graduate will know the fundamentals, as well as the most recent advances, in the areas of Plant Biotechnology or Toxicology. In addition, you will learn how to design and carry out a scientific research project and will know how to identify and use the sources of information that can support you for that purpose.

Abilities

  • The graduate will have the necessary ability to select or design those models that will guide the experimental development of Plant Biotechnology or Toxicology to solve practical problems related to these fields of study. Will be able to apply the appropriate instrumental and methodological techniques to obtain the required information and will have the ability to interpret the generated results and obtain conclusions from them.
