This Master has renewed its accreditation satisfactorily in the course 2015/16 (Positive report of the Foundation for Knowledge Madrid d).

The Master's objective is to train specialists of excellence, with an updated preparation in the work and management of the main areas of professional activity of the so-called Cultural Industries . Specially designed for future professionals who want to work in foundations, museums and art galleries, cultural journalism, publishing houses, communication cabinets and cultural and artistic institutions.

This Master has been verified by the National Agency for the Evaluation of Quality and Accreditation (ANECA), attached to the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport. The credits completed in the Master are automatically recognized for access to doctoral studies at any University of the European Higher Education Area.

Presentation and Objectives

The Master's Program in Contemporary Culture: Literature, Artistic Institutions and Communication Culture l, gathers and coordinates a multidisciplinary literary, artistic, legal and management academic formation, and an advanced professional preparation specifically focused on work in cultural entities and artistic institutions.

Program

The curriculum of the Master's Degree in Contemporary Culture, Literature, Artistic Institutions and Cultural Communication consists of two training modules.

Module I. Contemporary Culture: Literature, Art and Regulation of Cultural Institutions

Required. 24 credits

  • Subject I.1 Modern Theory of Literature (8 ECTS credits)
  • Subject I.2 Current Art Theory (8 ECTS credits)
  • Subject I.3 Art, Society and Law (8 ECTS credits)

Module II. Actuality of the arts, artistic institutions and cultural communication

Optional. 24 credits

  • Subject II.1 Culture of Contemporary Modernity: Theories and Communication (12 ECTS credits)
  • Subject II.2 Trends and figures of the current Literature (12 ECTS credits)
  • Subject II.3: Current art trends: Cinema and audiovisual arts (12 ECTS credits)
  • Subject II.4: Regulation and current management of artistic institutions and cultural industries (12 ECTS credits)

Final Master's Project

Development of the program

The Master in Contemporary Culture: Literature, Artistic Institutions and Cultural Communication lasts one academic year, starting in October and ending in June. The inauguration of the academic course will take place in October 2019.

The training modules of the Master's degree program are divided into two four-month periods :

  • Compulsory training module: From October 2019 to February 2020
  • Optional training module: From February to June 2020

In order to pass the academic training period, students will have to take 60 ECTS credits, 24 of which will be obtained by successfully passing the subjects that make up the first compulsory training module Contemporary Culture: Literature, Art and Regulation of Cultural Institutions ]. In the second Module II. Actuality of the arts, artistic institutions and cultural communication , of optional character, the student must take 24 ECTS credits of the teaching offer proposed in the postgraduate program. The Master is completed with the obligatory Master's Thesis (TFM) (12 ECTS).

All the credits are distributed in a balanced way throughout the two semesters of the course.

The teachings leading to the title of Master in Contemporary Culture: Literature, Artistic Institutions and Cultural Communication will be taught face-to -face ; so that students must attend the teaching sessions established for this purpose, which will take place at the headquarters of Instituto Universitario de Investigación Ortega y Gasset with the following schedule: Thursdays and Fridays from 4:30 to 8:30 and Saturdays from 10:00 to 14:00.

During the academic year a program of extraordinary activities is developed that aim to offer a complementary training to the student; and facilitate the effective practice of contacts with a select group of writers, artists, professionals and managers of cultural institutions, managers, gallery owners, curators and museum directors, publishers, etc. This program of extraordinary and complementary activities covers the different areas of training of the Master and takes place in the afternoon hours on Mondays, Tuesdays or Wednesdays, during the academic calendar of the academic year. In order to obtain the degree, attendance (85% of accredited attendance) will be taken into account, as well as participation in the modules and in the supervised activities that will be developed throughout the Master's program, as well as the overcoming of the different planned evaluations in the curriculum.

PRACTICES

Students have a large number of institutions, organizations and companies with which the Ortega y Gasset Institute has signed collaboration agreements, in which they can carry out practices that will be accredited in their completion. They are important in the training of students and allow them to get in touch with professional fields of interest. However, it must be remembered that in the Master's of Research the practices do not equal ECTS credits and, therefore, are not qualified.

The hours of completion of the practices will be established according to the characteristics of the same and the availability of the student. The schedules, in any case, will be compatible with the academic activity, training and representation and participation developed by the student in the Foundation. With regard to the duration of the practices, these will not exceed the maximum allowed in the current regulations.

Admission requirements

The Master's program is mainly aimed at graduates in Philology, Theory of Literature and Comparative Literature, Humanities, Fine Arts, History of Art, Information Sciences, Law, Business Management and Administration, but they can also register students (graduates or with a bachelor's degree), trained in other areas of knowledge in the field of Social Sciences. It will be advisable to have a good knowledge of the English language in order to access the program, and knowledge of other languages will also be evaluated as an evaluative merit.

To take the Master's degree, it will be necessary to hold a bachelor's, graduate, engineer or similar degree.

Requirements

To apply for admission to the Master's Degree in Contemporary Culture: Literature, Art Institutions and Cultural Communication, it will be necessary to meet in one of the following situations:

  • Be in possession of an official Spanish university degree (university degree, undergraduate degree or similar).
  • Be in possession of a degree issued by an institution of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), and that empowers, in the country of issuance, to access Master's education.
  • Be in possession of a university degree from educational systems outside the EHEA:
    • With authorization or permission of access by the Complutense University of Madrid or with a degree approved by the Ministry of Education.

For graduates of educational systems outside the EHEA who wish to apply for admission to the Master in Contemporary Culture program , prior verification by the Complutense University of Madrid will require that these university studies accredit a level of education equivalent to official university degrees. Spanish and that empower, in the country that issued the degree, to access postgraduate studies.

The access to master's degree studies in this way will not imply, in any case, the homologation of the previous Title of the interested party or its recognition for other purposes than that of studying the Master's degree requested. The access request period remains open all year.

Scholarships

Excellence Scholarships

The students of Instituto Universitario de Investigación Ortega y Gasset enrolled in the official Master's programs may apply for a scholarship from the Institute's Excellence Program. These scholarships will cover 30% of the tuition fee, excluding the fees paid to the University of reference.

Each student wishing to apply for an Excellence Scholarship will have to submit to the Institute's secretariat an application instance stating:

  • Personal information
  • The Master in which he is enrolled
  • The documentation that contributes
  • The scholarships that you have requested or intend to apply for in any public or private call.

The scholarship application must be made at the time of registration, no later than September 10, 2019.

The application for the scholarship must be sent to the Institute's secretariat at the same time the payment of the reservation of the place is made.

The criteria for granting the scholarships are: academic record (70%), personal or family situation (10%), residence outside of Madrid in the year prior to enrollment (10%), and personal motivation (10%). Students must submit documentation that certifies each of these criteria and may attach two letters of recommendation from teachers. The Institute may request the selected students to prove the authenticity of the documents submitted with originals or certified copies.

The Academic Commission that grants the scholarships will be integrated by the director of the Institute, the general director of the José Ortega y Gasset - Gregorio Marañón Foundation and two professors of the Institute appointed at the proposal of the director of the Institute and the general director. The directors of each Master will send to the Institute's address, before November 15 of each year, a motivated report, according to the aforementioned criteria, with a scholarship award proposal in which a priority will be established among the students who have requested scholarship in his Master. The Commission, according to the reports received, will raise a scholarship award proposal before December 1 of each year.

The Excellence Scholarships of Instituto Universitario de Investigación Ortega y Gasset are incompatible with any other public or private scholarship granted to the student to take the Master in which he has enrolled in the Institute. The scholarship holder is obliged to inform the Institute of any other scholarship granted, within a period of 10 days from its granting. The Institute will claim the student the amount that would have been granted for the Excellence Scholarship of the Institute if this circumstance occurred.

The amount of the scholarship will be applied to the last term of the payment of the tuition. The Institute may request scholarship students to perform extracurricular practices in support of the teaching, research and cultural activities of the institution, which will be recognized by a certificate . These practices do not imply a labor or commercial relationship with the institution or be remunerated.

Scholarships of the ALUMNI Program

Former students of Instituto Universitario de Investigación Ortega y Gasset will be entitled to a 5% discount on any new program they enroll. This discount, which will be considered a scholarship, will be applied to the tuition fee, excluding the fees paid to the University of reference. The discount will be applied in the last installment of the tuition payment.

To apply for this scholarship, the student will have to submit an application to the Institute's secretariat, as well as the documentation that proves that he or she has been a student of the Institute.

In no case, this discount will be applied to second or successive enrollments of subjects that have not been approved or to subjects of the same program that have not been completed in the first year of enrollment.

Scholarships for prompt payment

Students who formalize the first payment of their enrollment in any official Master of the Institute before May 16, this included, will be entitled to a scholarship of 5% discount of the tuition fee, excluding the fees paid to the University of reference. The discount will be applied in the last installment of the tuition payment. Students must submit an application to the secretary of the Institute, along with proof of the first payment, before May 16.
