Many college graduates choose to work toward a Master of Science, or MSc degree, as a means of increasing their earning potential and enhancing their job prospects. Others choose to begin what is typically a two- or three-year course of study in a given area in an effort to eventually teach at the university level or pursue an even higher doctoral designation.

Just what is an MSc in Teaching? This comprehensive advanced degree program typically takes about two or three years to complete and involves close review of a variety of topics necessary for employment success in an academic environment. Program curriculum varies from one to the next, but students in Master of Science in Teaching programs should expect to review concepts necessary to excel in early childhood education, secondary education, higher education and special education. Some programs place additional emphasis on subjects like adult education and literacy, while others emphasize teaching a particular population, like the blind.

Graduates of Master of Science in Teaching programs are prepared for work in a broad variety of global public and private educational institutions. Master’s degree holders are often hired over those with lesser academic degrees, and they also frequently earn more money. Furthermore, most colleges and universities require that their faculty members hold a master’s degree, at minimum.

Tuition costs of Master of Science in Teaching programs vary somewhat from one school to the next. Course candidates are encouraged to check with each school of interest about specific program and tuition information.

Graduates of these programs assume a broad range of education-related positions within the global workforce. Many become preschool, middle school, high school, or college teachers and professors, while others become school principals, counselors or administrators. Others choose to expand their education even further and pursue doctorate designations.
