The Master of Science in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) at the College of Mount Saint Vincent is a 30-credit curriculum consisting of both professional and skills-based clinically oriented courses. Offered collaboratively with the United Federation of Teachers (UFT), the M.S. TESOL program is designed to prepare prospective teachers of English language learners from pre-kindergarten through grade 12. Students are required to complete only FIVE courses at Mount Saint Vincent Riverdale or Manhattan campuses, and the remaining FIVE courses at a UFT site.
Students successfully completing this program and who pass the requisite teacher certification content specialty examination in ESOL will be eligible for New York State Initial Certification in TESOL.... [-]

The 30-credit graduate degree program can be completed with over 80% of the course credits taken online by asynchronous, computer-mediated communication. The program of study may begin with online courses in any semester, or summer campus field/lab science courses at the MSU-Bozeman, Montana campus.

The M.S. in Teaching and Curriculum is a 30 credit flexible degree program, which encompasses a number of fields of practice in education. Students with a strong interest or initial certification in a content or grade-level area can specialize in that area to further their knowledge and deepen their skills in teaching and development of curriculum.
This program is the most flexible of all programs, including for international students. Each program of study is developed individually with an advisor in a specific content area of teaching and/or areas of special interest.
What is the Application Deadline?There is no firm application deadline. Those who wish to apply for a School of Education Scholarship should apply by January 15 for the following fall semester. We also suggest this deadline for others, although applications are reviewed on a continuing basis. Applications are considered for Fall, Spring or Summer. The English as a Second Language (ESL) non-certification program immerses you in developing practical techniques, methods, and materials for teaching ESL. You also will study English grammar in the context of TESOL, investigate adolescent language development and explore bilingual and multicultural education. The Master of Science in Teaching & Inquiry (MSTI) Program is designed for licensed teachers with a minimum of two years of successful K-9 teaching experience in their own classroom. This program has five key features:
Students design half of their program to focus on the areas of professional growth they are most interested in pursuing. The program takes five terms to complete. Each term students take one required core course and one elective. (Term 4 also includes a required 1 credit hour research seminar.) Upon acceptance into the program, students meet with a program advisor to create an Electives Plan based on their professional goals. This plan may change as students progress through the program based on their evolving interests. One elective can be a general education course in the College of Arts and Sciences to improve content knowledge in a subject the student teaches (i.e. history, writing, math, etc.) Students will design and implement an original action research project in their classroom based on a specific research/education interest that is developed with program faculty. ... The 36-credit Master of Science in Secondary Education, Grades 7-12, leads to either initial or professional certification. Placement in one of two tracks is determined by a candidate's undergraduate preparation and teaching experience. Pre-practice candidates will pursue a course of study (Track A) leading to degree conferral and eligibility for Initial New York State certification.
Candidates who are currently working and have at least one year's experience as teachers of record in classrooms in private, parochial or charter schools will participate in the Track B course of study. Track B candidates who do not yet have appropriate experience at both the lower and upper-grade levels covered by their prospective certification area(s) will fulfill this requirement by completing 20 days of supervised student teaching in each area in which they do not already have such experience.
