This course is ideal if you did not study building surveying at the undergraduate level but would like to enter the profession and require a 'conversion' course (see entry requirements). The course draws on the strength of project work, which is a particular speciality of the School, and on the developing sustainability agenda.

What will you study?

You will gain knowledge of building materials, construction technology and pathology; specialist legal and regulatory issues; the design of simple structures; and the preparation of schemes for the rehabilitation of buildings. The course focuses on the core competencies of the building surveyor and professional builder operating at local, regional and national levels. It takes into account the developing sustainability agenda with which construction professionals must increasingly engage, together with multidisciplinary requirements specific to building surveying. While centred around the discipline requirements necessary for the UK-based building surveying professional, the course also contains European and global perspectives appropriate to the requirements of international consultancies.... The course is intended for graduates working, or intending to work, in the construction industry offering advice on project feasibility, methods for financing and procuring construction work and financial management of the design and construction process within consultant firms, client organisations or contracting companies.

Applicants should have an interest in construction cost management and the motivation to pursue an intensive route to professional qualifications. Course content covers the skills required of the practising quantity surveyor.

Three supplementary modules at the beginning of the course bring you up to speed in relation to construction technology, law and contract documentation and administration before you embark on the masters level modules. MScs in Surveying in Europe 2019. Not just a desk job Buildings are an integral part of all of our lives; our homes, schools, workplaces and public places wouldn't exist without building surveyors. This course will teach the underpinnings of building construction, as well as how to maintain and use them sustainably. Being a building surveyor is very varied work; much of the job is undertaken on-site visits (it's not just a desk job) and no two days will be the same. The programme is for those involved in the maintenance, refurbishment, alteration and extension of existing buildings, or in project management and design for public bodies, commercial organisations and professional practice firms. Students coming to us from a non-construction/surveying background will be taught alongside those who have completed an undergraduate surveying degree and who are already working in the industry.
