Political decisions give direction to society. But how are political decisions made? This one-year graduate program provides you with specialist, in-depth knowledge of decision-making in politics. We study political decision-making from the perspective of the citizen, the politician, the policy professional, and institutions, using cases from local, national, European and international politics. During this master program, you will learn the science, craft, and art of political decision-making an prepare for a career in politics, policymaking, public affairs, research, consultancy or the media. The program is structured around a set of four core obligatory courses and one skills lab.

This Master analyses governance problems and possible responses with due account being given to specific historical pathways of countries and the interaction between the national state level, local society level, and the impact of global developments. Students are familiarised with multidisciplinary theoretical insights and practical tools that will improve their capacity to analyse governance challenges at different levels. The governance programme offers two tracks with specific objectives and courses: Track 1: Governance and ConflictTrack 2: Local Governance and Poverty Reduction

This program combines academic excellence in the comparative study of public sector structures, policy-making and administration within Europe, with a concern for the practical challenges professionals in policy, administrative and consultative functions face at the sub-state, state, and EU level. MEPP has an explicit European and comparative orientation, which includes the study of institutions, decision-making and policies of the European Union on the one hand, and the analysis of convergence and divergence of public sector problems and solutions in European Countries on the other hand.
