Studying for a Master of Science (MSc) is a way for professionals to gain an expert-level understanding of their field of interest. Students can enroll in a program immediately after they earn a bachelor’s degree, although many wait until they have begun a career.

What is an MSc in Philosophy? The study of philosophy, itself, is a way for students to hone their critical thinking skills. A master’s in logic is intended for students who are interested in mathematics and formal thinking. Students can choose from specialized studies such as linguistics, computer science and artificial intelligence. Those who choose to study the philosophy of science, technology and society will cover thought-provoking topics such as, “Are there ethical limits to genetic modifications?” Both fields are intended to help students look at the future implications of science and how it will affect the world.

Research shows that students who take philosophy classes are better at inductive reasoning. As you earn your master’s degree, you can learn to approach problems from different perspectives and thus enhance your ability to methodically come to results. All of these traits can make you a valued employee in a number of fields.

The cost of each two-year program can differ, depending on where it is offered. The universities can give you specifics on tuition as well as registration costs and payment options.

A Master of Science in Philosophy opens up a wide range of career opportunities. Governments seek those who can think and write clearly to become policy makers, while law firms want associates who can carefully analyze and present arguments. Graduates may also find jobs in research and development, biotechnology, and engineering and environmental science.

We also analyze the fundamental structure of theories such as general relativity, quantum mechanics, evolution, and genetics. Philosophy, science and religion are three endeavours that shape in far-reaching and fundamental ways how we think, what we value, and how we live. Public discourse, professional life, politics and culture revolve around the philosophical, scientific and religious ideas of our age; yet they and their relationship to each other are not well understood. This programme brings together leaders in the fields of philosophy, science and theology, based both in Edinburgh and across the world. You will be brought up to date with the relevant scientific developments including quantum mechanics, relativity, cosmology, evolutionary biology, neuroscience, and human origins, the relevant theological issues including the problem of evil, miracles, theological conceptions of creation, theological conceptions of providence, and eschatology, and the philosophical tools in the philosophy of science, metaphysics, epistemology, and philosophy of language required to understand the relationship between them. -
