Master of Science in Environmental Systems

GMIT Galway Campus

Ireland's emerging environmental sector employs over 4,000 people and generates an annual turnover of €770 million. There is, at present, a deficit of skilled engineers to fill positions in this growth area. The Master of Science in Environmental Systems at GMIT aims to produce graduates with the environmental knowledge, skills, and competencies currently being sought by industry - manufacturing, energy, service, and/or construction - and local government.GMIT has a long history of training undergraduate and postgraduate engineers and scientists to the highest standards. The Institute has excellent teaching and research credentials in relation to design for the environment, renewable energy technology design, energy auditing and management, waste management, sustainable building design, and wastewater management and water protection. GMIT has invested heavily in specialist laboratory facilities and staff training to support this programme.... [-]

The Master of Science (MSc) and Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Bioprocessing have been developed by the Institute of Technology Sligo (IT Sligo) to meet the growing needs of the Biopharmaceutical Industry.

Biopharmaceuticals, also known as biologic(al) medical products, or biologics, are any pharmaceutical drug product manufactured in, extracted from, or synthesised from biological sources. The Medical Biotechnology and Biopharmaceutical sectors are among the fastest growing in the Life Sciences area both nationally and internationally.

IT Sligo together with the National Institute for Bioprocessing Research & Training (NIBRT)* have been delivering a part-time online MSc and PGD in Biopharmaceutical Science since 2008 (www.nibrt.ie/masters). These courses (designed in extensive collaboration with industry) are aimed at Science and Engineering graduates with industrial experience who wish to up-skill or cross-skill for a career in biopharmaceuticals and normally take 2.5 years to complete. The courses have been shown to be extremely successful at up-skilling and cross-skilling individuals either working or hoping to transition into the Biopharmaceutical sector. There still, however, remains a skills gap in the Bioprocessing area which means that additional graduates from Industry focussed programmes are needed. In a recent 2016 “Trends in Biopharma” Survey, recruitment and development of talent have emerged as a key threat to the future growth of the sector (1).... [-]

MSc in Neuroscience

Trinity College Dublin
Campus Full time 1 year September 2019 Ireland Dublin

This one-year M.Sc. course aims to provide a multidisciplinary training in the neurosciences, in topics ranging from molecular to behavioural. The course is ideal for students wishing to extend their specialised knowledge, and for those wishing to convert from their original degree discipline. The programme will equip participants with the skills necessary to progress into a career in biomedical, pharmaceutical or neuropsychological research. [+]

Neuroscience is a discipline concerned with the scientific study of the nervous system in health and disease. Research in the neurosciences is of considerable clinical impact considering the debilitating and costly effects of neurological and psychiatric disease. In this regard, a major goal of modern neuroscience research is to elucidate the underlying causes (genetic or environmental) of major brain diseases, and to produce more effective treatments for major psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia and depression, and neurological disorders such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, motor neurone disease and epilepsy. Improved treatment strategies for brain disorders relies entirely on increased understanding gained from research which integrates molecular, cellular and clinical aspects of disease. In this regard, it is clear that interdisciplinary approaches are necessary to understand the complex processes which underlie brain function in health and disease. This interdisciplinary philosophy is adopted in the delivery of our M.Sc. programme in Neuroscience, which is underpinned by the diverse research expertise available within Trinity College. The M.Sc. course in Neuroscience is held in the Department of Physiology, School of Medicine, located within Trinity College Institute of Neuroscience (T.C.I.N.) and Trinity College Biomedical Sciences Institute (T.B.S.I.)....
