Why study this course

This well-established programme was developed in response to industry and research institution requirements for applied meteorologists and climatologists. This demand continues, partially due to the growing attention of the society to climate change, its mitigation and adaptation to it.

This programme provides comprehensive training in understanding, modelling and prediction of atmospheric processes; as well as the collection, management, supply and application of atmospheric data for the needs of a variety of public and private sectors. The course also demonstrates how these create opportunities or pose problems for the successful operation of natural and human systems. Our aim is that upon graduation you will be able to compete for careers in Meteorology and Climatology.... [-]

The students of our Master's programme benefit from an exceptionally wide range of research opportunities, providing them with a choice of five research groups covering several fields from theoretical and experimental meteorology. During the Master's degree programme, our students benefit from a number of unique programmes that are offered by the "Sonderforschungsbereich" (special research group) "Waves to Weather", the Research Training Group, and the nearby Max Planck Institute for Chemistry and Polymers Research.

While our programme for atmospheric physics is internationally recognised for its strong focus on research, the excellent student-to-faculty ratio allows for lectures on a remarkably wide range of topics. These include the fields of atmospheric dynamics, trace gas dynamics, atmospheric chemistry, radiation, and remote sensing and modelling in general.... [-]

Master of Science Programs in Meteorology in Europe 2019.

The goal of this program is to extend the knowledge of BSc level students, and to learn about different meteorological phenomena, their driving forces, and to gain knowledge on the state-of-the-art methodology that is used in the practice and also about climate change and its environmental consequences. Students have to learn about the multidisciplinary nature of meteorology and the possible connections with different other scientific fields and sectors.

This program is recommended to applicants who have strong background in physics, mathematics and meteorology or environmental science. Applicants should have deep motivation and ability to learn about the theory of weather forecast and climate modelling, and they should be able to apply their knowledge in the practice. Applicants should be able to understand the different spatial scales that are associated with the variety of meteorological phenomena.... [-]
