Materials Science and Technology is a master’s programme with a focus on developing and commercialising new materials and their applications. Studies of materials science and the basics of entrepreneurship are combined with activities aimed at creating a product and its manufacturing technology.
The programme provides knowledge of theoretical principles of materials science, testing and investigation methods and development and design of materials. Students' development projects are done in cooperation with scientific laboratories where they also perform the experimental part of their master’s thesis.
Graduates can work as specialists in the area of materials development in manufacturing enterprises and research institutions, start and run new small and medium businesses handling with materials or continue their studies at doctoral level....

The Unit of Electro-Optical and Photonics Engineering (EOPE) was established in 2000 with the vision that the 21st century will depend as much on photonics as the 20th century depended on electronics. It is dedicated to research and education in electro-optical and photonics engineering and is currently the only department in Israel authorized to grant graduate degrees (MSc and Ph.D.) in electro-optical engineering. The M.S. degree in materials science requires a minimum of 30 credit hours of graduate courses. There are two paths to obtaining an M.S.: Plan A, with thesis, and Plan B, without thesis. Plan B is the normal, default, option for entering students. If a student wishes to pursue a Plan A path instead, it is the student’s responsibility to make arrangements with a faculty thesis advisor to supervise his/her work and to inform the MSC program office of this.

For students electing to obtain the M.S. degree with thesis (Plan A), the following requirements apply: The 30 credit hours must include a minimum of 20 credit hours of MSC graduate courses plus 10 credit hours for research, and the student must successfully complete an oral defense of his/her thesis, after all other degree requirements have been completed....
