Forest sciences focuses on the significance of forests and how the growth and development of forests contribute to our greater understanding of natural resources. Forests can be an important source of knowledge for subjects such as climatology and hydrology as well as a pivotal ecosystem for many living organisms.

The United States of America is a large country in North America, often referred to as the "USA", the "US", the "United States", "America", or simply "the States". American colleges are funded by "tuition" charged to the student, which is often quite expensive, very commonly reaching into the tens of thousands of dollars per year.

The Urban Forestry Master of Science Graduate Program was established in the fall of 1998. The mission of the graduate program is to provide graduate students with a curriculum that offers sound academic training and experiential learning activities for professional career positions in governmental agencies, research organizations, and private firms. The program utilizes an interdisciplinary, total quality management approach to train students so that they can ultimately address critical issues and concerns in the science and management of urban forestry and natural resources. Each student will follow a prescribed program of course work and conduct a thesis research or capstone project tailored toward emerging issues or problems in urban forestry. -

The Master of Science in Sustainable Forest Management is appropriate for students who want two or more years of formal graduate work and who wish to develop a limited research specialization. Designed primarily for pursuing careers in research or teaching or those seeking professional development through in-depth research on a topic of interest, the MS program can be either a terminal degree or the first step toward a doctorate. The program provides an opportunity for independent research to be reported in a formal Master’s Thesis. MS students choose from one of the six SFM areas of concentration. -

Graduate study is offered in the Department of Forestry leading to the degrees of Master of Science in forestry and Doctor of Philosophy in forest resources. Specialized areas of study include forest business, forest management and economics, forest genetics, forest hydrology and soils, silviculture, forest biometrics, forest photogrammetry and remote sensing, forest tree and seed physiology, forest harvesting, and operations, and forest ecophysiology. The department has an extensive research program within the Mississippi Forest and Wildlife Research Center. This program provides the graduate student with a wide choice of problems for thesis or dissertation research supervised by an experienced faculty. The master of science degree from the Department of Wood Science is unique and highly-collaborative and aimed at students who desire dynamic careers in industry, higher education, government, and nonprofits. Students study basic wood science and wood science in the global context of the forest sector and work with their lead professors on a one-on-one basis to determine the focus of their research. The program is firmly rooted in Oregon’s local geography—the state has long been a center of forest products manufacturing —but Oregon State’s presence, and much of the department’s research, is global. There are many opportunities for students to partner with industry members and collaborators – both in the U.S. and around the world – to study abroad, participate in graduate assistantships and other hands-on learning experiences. -

Evaluate sugar maple dieback trends. Compile and analyze woodland owner surveys. Study past harvesting practices and other stressors to detect trends, improve forest productivity, and decrease tree mortality. Research on pests, tree pathogens, and selecting tree species that adapt to a range of future conditions—preparing forests for multiple recreational and industrial uses, and changing climate. Take part in national climate assessments, and ecosystem services, sustainability, and bioenergy development across the Americas. Learn to evaluate research, propose research, and be capable to carry it out, making an original contribution to science—and be prepared to enter industry, or continue on to PhD studies. -

Canopy photosynthesis in temperate deciduous forest. Case studies of high-performing contract loggers with distinct harvest systems. Interpreting stand structures. Communicating with private forest landowners. Forests provide an array of ecological services—from recreational, to watershed protection. We seek to understand ecological effects and processes, and the impact our management has, from the impacts of bioenergy production on bird habitat to frameworks for coupled social-ecohydrological systems. -
