Energy Studies

An MSc, or Master of Science, is an academic distinction bestowed upon those who effectively complete a predetermined set of coursework in what is often a science-based discipline. The MSc often enhances career opportunities as well as earning potential.

An energy program teaches students about the ways in which the world’s need and demand for power are met. Studies may focus on one particular resource or cover the development of alternatives. Sustainable sources may be explored as well.

With university education being upper most level in the education system of the Belgium, the government has put more emphasis to make sure that the students’ lives is made as simple as possible through the loan and grants programs. They offer sponsors for international students with poor and vulnerable backgrounds who would like to study in this country.

Master in Water Resources Engineering

Vrije Universiteit Brussel
Campus Full time 2 years September 2018 Belgium Brussels

The Interuniversity Programme in Water Resources Engineering has a long tradition of research and education in the field of water engineering. As a cooperation between Vrije Universiteit Brussel and Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, this Master's programme is built upon a sound and comprehensive engineering approach to the management and exploitation of available water resources. [+]

PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION

This programme is jointly organized by the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. It is one of the International Course Programmes supported by the Flemish Interuniversity Council. The first year of this master's programme contains only compulsory courses (60SP) on mathematics, statistics, hydraulics, groundwater and surface water hydrology, irrigation agronomy, aquatic ecology, water quality, GIS and remote sensing, hydrologic data processing and measurements.

In the second year (60SP), most courses are organized as workshops and linked to an integrated project. Three workshops have to be selected among the following: groundwater modelling, soil water modelling, irrigation design and management, surface water modelling, river modelling, urban hydrology and advanced aquatic ecology.... Master of Engineering: Energy (Leuven)

KU Leuven: Faculty of Engineering Science
Campus Full time Part time 2 years September 2018 Belgium Leuven + 1 more

What will the future bring in terms of energy? Will we produce electricity from renewable sources such as the wind and sun? Will nuclear energy make a comeback? What will power cars in the future and what will their engines look like? The liberalization of energy markets is causing a genuine techno-economic revolution. The greenhouse gas issue threatens our way of life. Guaranteeing a (sustainable) supply of energy is a challenge for all mankind. These phenomena make the subject of energy highly topical. [+]

[+]

PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION

The Advanced Master of Nuclear Engineering is a demanding programme where students with high-level backgrounds in engineering investigate highly theoretical subjects such as neutron physics, fluid flow and heat transfer modelling, and apply them to reactor design, nuclear safety and plant operation & control. At a more interdisciplinary level, the programme includes important areas of material science, with a particular interest in the fuel cycle. Radiation protection and nuclear measurements are included in the programme. All subjects are taught by academics appointed by the partner universities, while the practical exercises and laboratory sessions are supervised by members of the researcher staff of SCK•CEN. The final thesis offers an opportunity for an internship in industry or a research laboratory. BNEN grants are available for full-time students. ... [-]
