The MSc, or Master of Science, is an internationally recognized academic degree that indicates proficiency and knowledge of a given topic or field. Most MSc programs take about four years to finish, after which some join the workforce while others continue on in the classroom. 

Development studies provide knowledge linking to global development processes and their inter-relationship from a multidisciplinary, social science perspective. Central questions that are addressed include theories of development and underdevelopment, globalisation and the international economic system, foreign assistance, North-South relations and the poverty problem.

Japans approach to science and technology is highly rated thus their education levels very structured from childhood to primary through secondary to tertiary levels. The starting point of the MPP programme is to stimulate students to gain an understanding of the basic idea of good governance. The emphasis of the programme lies with the question of how can public policy be dealt with in the most effective and efficient way. To guarantee high quality in an international environment, UNU-MERIT cooperates with the faculties of Maastricht University, partner universities, and international bodies, such as the International Labour Organization (ILO). The MPP programme concentrates on public policy analysis and governance in general and includes the following specialisations: Social Protection Policy (in cooperation with ILO) Foreign Policy and Development Migration Studies Risk and Vulnerability (in co-operation with UNU-EHS) Regional Integration & Multi-Level Governance Innovation of Governance (in cooperation with UNU-MERIT) Social Entrepreneurship & Public Policy (under construction) Objective In this programme, you will be trained in formulating, implementing, monitoring and evaluating policy in order to be able to give recommendations for improving or replacing ongoing policies. Students are provided with a variety of skills, tools and knowledge which will enable them to work as policy designers and policy analysts in public and private institutions. -
