As the computer science field of study became increasingly prevalent, many had their doubts that this field of study would continue. Education in the United Kingdom is a devolved matter with each of the countries of the United Kingdom having separate systems under different governments: the UK Government is responsible for England, and the Scottish Government, the Welsh Government and the Northern Ireland Executive are responsible for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, respectively.

Lancashire is in the North West of England. There are four universities (Lancaster University, University of Central Lancashire, Edge Hill University and The University of Cumbria) and seven higher education colleges.

This programme will enhance students’ understanding in a range of current areas of computer science in relation to distributed systems (including topics such as Cloud and IoT), data science (related to big data analysis) and human and computers (i.e. HCI topics helping to design user-centric systems). The study is enhanced through interaction with world-class researchers in their field through an initial three-week placement with them and a subsequent project doing in-depth work and research on a chosen topic. Students are encouraged to collaborate with industrial partners and complete an MSc project in a professional environment. -
