Master of Science (MSc): These programs are postgraduate studies for people who have recently finished their undergraduate studies and want to improve their knowledge on a profound and more scientific level.
There are several fields that make up the broader field of computer science. One of these fields is the computational complexity theory, which can be very abstract. Other fields, such as computer graphics, deal more with concrete and hands-on visuals.
Norway (Norge) is the westernmost, northernmost — and in fact the easternmost — of the three Scandinavian countries. Norway is well known for its amazing and varied scenery. The fjords in the west of the country are long narrow inlets, flanked on either side by tall mountains where the sea penetrates far inland. The ultimate responsibility for the education lies with the Norwegian Ministry of Education and Research.

The study program gives a broad foundation within the field of computer science. Topics you will encounter during the study include computer security, wireless communication, semantic technology, autonomic computing, modeling and simulation, and distributed systems.Composition of the study programThe study program comprises 120 credit points (ECTS) in total, taken over 2 years. 20 ECTS are basic core subjects (B), 60 ECTS are specialization subjects (S), 30 ECTS are credited for the master thesis (M), and 10 ECTS are elective subjects. The master thesis is done on an individual basis where a written report is mandatory. Master theses with industrial partners are highly recommended. The program utilizes lectures, and activities such as individual projects, group projects, laboratory exercises with written reports, and company and industrial plant visits as learning methods. There is a high degree of individual advisory in the program – especially with regards to the Master thesis at the end.A system for continuous assessment and evaluation of the study program is in place. The program plan, including a revision proposal, will be handled by the quality and program committee on a yearly basis according to university policies and guidelines. Furthermore, each individual course included in the program will be evaluated and assessed.... [-]

All teaching will be held in English, and the program has students from all over the world. [+]
The program covers both the theoretical basis and the experimental methods in computer science. Higher level courses are directly connected to the research within the Department. This implies an opportunity for substantial knowledge in the fields covered.
The program consists of four mandatory courses in computer science, a total of 40 ECTS credits, and 20 ECTS credits of elective courses. The elective courses may be within topics such as economics, management, psychology, and entrepreneurship. The program concludes with a master thesis of 60 ECTS credits. The master thesis can also be done in collaboration with an external IT-company.Learning outcomes
For each program at the UiT, there are set targets for knowledge, analytical understanding, skills and competencies that a student should have reached by the end of studies.... [-]
