Biology

An MSc, or Master of Science, is an academic distinction bestowed upon those who effectively complete a predetermined set of coursework in what is often a science-based discipline. The MSc often enhances career opportunities as well as earning potential.

Biology examines the activity of organisms in the areas of function, growth, and evolution, as well as how these factors affect where the organism lives. It can further study how individual organisms interact within their environment.

Germany is a great destination for international scholarsand has a high quality higher education system. The value of this level of education has been improved by the Germany's strong economy. Foreign students enjoy excellent living standards in a secure and safe surroundings. Berlin is the capital.

Since the winter semester 2011/12 the Faculty of Biology has offered the Master of Science in "Cell Biology and Physiology". In the winter semester 2015/16, this was reissued as new Master of Science in "Physical Biology of Cells and Cell Interactions".

The two-year Master's program Physical Biology of Cells and Cell Interactions is research-oriented and educates students in modern concepts and methods of cell biology and physical biology. Scientific questions in the fields of cell biology and physical biology will be combined with developmental biology, cellular structure biology, bioinformatics, biochemistry, immunology, neuro-and plant physiology.

The Master's program provides students with an understanding of fundamental life processes from cell growth, cell-cell communication and differentiation to hormonal, inflammatory, angiogenic signaling and aging. These processes are studied in context of cells, individual tissues and model organisms. The experimental and conceptual approaches of the program include modern cell biological, molecular, biochemical, bioinformatical, immunological and genetic methods, combined with various microscopical techniques and applications, molecular imaging, data analysis as well as morphological and physiological technologies.... Master of Science in Ecotoxicology

An increasing number of chemicals is used by society today, which are also released into the environment. Ecotoxicology is concerned with their potential impacts on the ecosystem. It aims to investigate and discover effects of chemicals on biological systems in order to develop methods for risk management, as well as to predict ecological consequences.

The international "Master of Science program in Ecotoxicology" integrates concepts of Environmental Chemistry, Toxicology and Ecology and includes Social Sciences and Economics as well. Due to its interdisciplinary and applied approach, the Program enables its graduates to analyze complex problems and to develop practical solutions.... [-]

Neuroscience spans many disciplines. Its repertoire stretches from molecular biology and proteome research to systems neurobiology, cognitive neuroscience, and clinical research. Successful research in neuroscience rests on a combination of differential concepts and methodical approaches. The major objective of the program is to offer to talented students a highly research-oriented training that will provide them with a broad overview of the most relevant fields of neuroscience, including basic neuroscience, clinical neuroscience, cognitive neuroscience and computational neuroscience. This also includes relevant practical skills.

The program will confront students with various levels of complexity of neural functions from molecular biology to systems neuroscience. A major characteristic comprises the optional training in clinical neuroscience that will familiarise students with neuropathology and aspects of neurology and will provide them with hands-on information on current technical approaches applied in clinical research. You do not require previous intensive training in neuroscience. However, solid background knowledge in the field of neuroscience is essential for following the courses. This includes the principal education in laboratory techniques, particularly in cell biological bench work. As the program is an interdisciplinary one, we invite applications from students from various fields.... [-]
