Compare 75 Master of Science Degrees in Architecture Studies
For those who want to receive an advanced degree in a specific field of study, attaining a Master of Science (MSc) degree is a good way to go. This type of postgraduate education can be accomplished in many different countries spanning the globe. Most degrees focus on developing innovative science and technology skills.
What is an MSc in Architecture Studies? While an MSc in Architecture Studies does not lead to architectural licensing, it does provide the in-depth knowledge of architecture helpful for many different professions. Students can acquire a solid education in architecture, building science, interior design, and urban design. MSc programs often offer students opportunities to conduct their own research and practically apply the knowledge they obtain. An MSc in Architecture Studies can lead to, and aid in, the pursuit of a doctorate degree.
The benefits of holding this degree include an upper hand when applying for jobs because students leave with a larger body of work in the field of architecture. This degree can give people the opportunity to put sustainable technology to practice in order to better communities through implementing socially conscious ways of living and building.
Since the cost of getting an MSc varies enormously from university to university and country to country, those who seek to enter into this type of program should look into specific schools to know the precise pricing.
People that have an MSc in Architecture Studies can find careers as interior designers after learning about design practice and history, computer applications, and environmental factors for interiors. They can also become urban planners, with a focus on rejuvenating cities and creating sustainable, healthy, and safe environments. Careers in construction management are a possibility as well, so students can put to use their knowledge of mechanical systems, lighting, ventilation, air quality, and building structure and assembly.

Master of Science in Urban Development (UD)
Background and Challenges
Urban growth is extensively transforming the face of the planet. For the first time in human history, more than half of the world's population now lives in towns and cities. With an average growth rate of 2.1% per annum from 1990-2003, the MENA region has one of the world’s most rapidly expanding populations, increasingly concentrated in urban areas.
Cities in both the MENA region and other parts of the world are engines of growth, providing a disproportionate share of income opportunities and access to services. At the same time, cities are places of growing social and economic inequality, with increasing numbers of people living in poverty and deteriorating living conditions. Furthermore, urbanization also poses a significant challenge in the 21st century, with an estimated 80% of global greenhouse gas emissions linked to urban areas. The enormous contribution of urban areas to global greenhouse gas emissions is set to increase even more....

Landscape Architecture is sometimes described as ‘drawing in the topography’, but the profession encompasses much more. During the Master’s programme at the Amsterdam Academy of Architecture, you will acquire the knowledge, insight, and skills that make it possible to solve spatial problems through design and to shed light on new topographical situations. This will take place at different scale levels, from a garden to the region.
You will not only learn to reconcile new elements such as water, infrastructure, buildings or greenery with the existing qualities and possibilities of the natural and historical environment, but also how to set a process in motion which an increasing amount of parties will latch on to. Research is an important part of the work, as genuine understanding and innovation can arise from this. That also means gaining an understanding of other factors than the spatial one: the users, the creators and the managers. Above all, the landscape architect is explicitly aware of the influence that the time factor has on the quality of the environment, and can let this do its work. By introducing the right basic conditions, a high-quality outdoor environment is created....

Goals and Contents The Master of Science in Architecture offers the opportunity to acquire the most advanced theoretical knowledge and operative skills for the practice of contemporary architectural design. Architectural design is taught through its disciplinary foundations and is closely related to technological innovation, environmental issues, models of territorial management and the themes of restoration and reestablishment of the historical, architectural and environmental heritage. The objective the Master pursues is to train professionals who, on the basis of the acquired awareness and in-depth knowledge of the complexity of current architectural practice, are competent both to carry out the functions of direct architectural design and to coordinate the different specialists involved in professional projects. The study program consists of a series of theoretical lectures and design studios dedicated to arguments and methods of architectural design in its different forms (housing, services industry, culture, etc.) and scales (from interior design to the architectural structure, all the way up to the urban and territorial plan). The program draws on two different but correlated teaching approaches. The first consists of theoretical courses pertaining to the methodological, technological and historical knowledge that will enable future architects to explore central themes of contemporary architectural culture critically. The second approach entails each semester, the choice of a design studio which focuses on a specific project typology, whether architectural or urban. In the years of the Master, students are asked to produce one theoretical paper on topics of their own choice with the approval of a teacher. The last...
