The MSc. program in Psychology is a degree with specializations in consulting psychology, counselling, community psychology, and pastoral psychotherapy.

The MS program in Industrial/Organizational (I/O) Psychology prepares students to pursue practitioner or research careers focused on human behaviour in the workplace. The program provides students with a comprehensive background in I/O Psychology that emphasizes the theoretical principles of the field and the application of these principles in the business world.

For those who are eager to expand their knowledge of psychology further, this course is ideal. It is also an appropriate progression for those who are interested in vocational psychology roles which increasingly require doctorate training. With a number of roles in vocational psychology now requiring doctorate training, there is a need for students to gain experience and knowledge in order to gain a place on the doctorate programmes. The additional experience and knowledge gained from completing this Masters, better equips graduates to compete for a place on a doctorate programme.

The MSc Management Psychology programme is designed around three critical management activities: developing effective workers, identifying competent workers, and managing productive organisations. You will also learn about the scientific foundations of psychology and how to use psychological theories and methods. The course is offered on a part-time, flexible learning basis over 24 or 36 months. Face-to-face teaching, tutorials, and workshop-based teaching with experts are both supported and enhanced by an e-learning environment.

This programme provides an opportunity for intensive advanced training in the psychology of language. The teaching and supervision are conducted by internationally recognised researchers from our Language, Cognition & Communication Research Group. The group’s expertise covers the broad scope of psycholinguistics, as well as connections to other areas of social and cognitive psychology and cognitive neuroscience, and members use a wide range of experimental, observational, computational, and neuroscience methods. The group is part of one of the largest collections of natural language researchers in Europe, with links to computer scientists, linguists, and philosophers. You will take courses on the core mechanisms of human language processing, and conduct an original research dissertation in this area. You will also receive thorough training in advanced academic and research skills, including comprehensive coverage of statistical modelling and research design using the R statistical language.

This programme provides an opportunity for intensive advanced training in the psychology of individual differences, addressing the questions of how and why people differ from one another psychologically and how these differences matter in their lives. There are few MSc programmes dedicated to individual differences in Europe as well as in the whole world. The University of Edinburgh is uniquely positioned to offer this programme because of its long history of world-class individual differences research and teaching. Staff involved in teaching and supervision include internationally recognised researchers from our Individual Differences Research Group. Our staff expertise covers various topics, including the measurement, causes and consequences of personality traits and intelligence, positive psychology, primate behaviour, paranormal beliefs and psychopathology.
