Curriculum
Specialisations
Chemistry of Life
In this specialisation, you will focus on complex molecular systems in a biological context. You will learn how cells work from a chemist’s perspective and become an expert in the chemistry of all biologically relevant molecules.
Medicinal Chemistry
Study all stages of drug development (discovery, design, development, targeted delivery), including the phases of drug activity relating to a drug’s formulation, analysis of its toxicity, and understanding of its pharmacokinetics and -dynamics.
Molecular Chemistry
Molecular Chemistry is a creative science, which involves the synthesis of molecules with new biological or physical properties in order to meet scientific or societal challenges. The possibilities are endless!
Physical Chemistry
This specialisation aims at unravelling the properties of molecules and materials in great detail, by developing theory and physical instrumentation for advanced spectroscopic experiments.
Science, Management and Innovation
In Science, Management and Innovation (SMI) you will gain expertise in societal challenges, work on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and learn the ability to speak the language of policy and business.
Science in Society
Science and technology fundamentally influence society. The reverse is also true: society shapes the ways in which science and technology evolve. In this specialisation, you will become a bridge-builder between science and society.
Thinking of getting a teaching qualification?
The (Dutch-only) Master's programme in Science Education (Educatie in de Bètawetenschappen) combines chemistry subjects, didactics and internships, which trains you to become a teacher in secondary or higher education.
Pre-Master's
Students who'd like to study MSc Molecular Sciences but who lack a (small) part of the admissions criteria might be eligible for a (customised) pre-Master’s in English. This pre-Master's programme is specifically designed to bridge the gap between your prior education and our Master's programme. The content of the programme consists of specific courses from our Bachelor's programme in Chemistry or Molecular Life Sciences and depends on the specialisation that you would like to pursue.
Pre-Master's Molecular Sciences
This pre-Master's programme is designed to bridge the gap between your prior education and our Master's programme in Molecular Sciences.
