MSc in Marketing Management (CIM and IDM Top Up)

MSc Marketing Management is designed to offer students who currently hold the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) and The Institute of Direct and Digital Marketing (IDM) QCA Level 7 Diploma (with a weighted average pass mark of 50%) the opportunity to upgrade their qualification to a full Masters degree.

The course aims to extend the understanding and competence gained via professional qualifications and to enhance the ability of students to think strategically about marketing in the contemporary environment. A number of study routes are offered including both full time and part time learning. Delivery will be on campus during the daytime.


Full-time route (12 months)

All UK/EU students can choose to complete the course in full-time or part-time mode. International students will need to study full time and complete the whole course in two semesters (due to visa requirements).


Part-time route (24 months)

UK/ EU home students are also able to take the part-time route, which will enable two or three units to be taken over two semesters.

Modules

To upgrade from the Diploma to Masters Degree eligible students are required to successfully complete two or three taught modules (Research Methods and one or two optional units from the existing portfolio), depending on their prior qualification(s). All modules are assessed by a mix of coursework and exams. The list of available optional modules are detailed below:

NOTES

*1 Research methods is a compulsory unit. You need to take it once in either Semester 1 or Semester 2 (It is the same unit in both semesters).

*2 IMC is an optional unit. You can only take it once in either Semester 1 or Semester 2 (It is the same unit in both semesters).

*3 Marketing Communications is an optional unit. You can only take it once in either Semester 1 or Semester 2 (It is the same unit in both semesters).

*4 If you are doing RM, plus 1 Option Unit then you will be accredited with prior learning for 10 credits. The APL will be the Marketing Communications unit.

*5 Please note that you can only do the credits you need. For example, if you are doing RM, plus 1 Optional Unit plus dissertation your optional unit will need to be one 20-‐credit unit. If you are doing Research Methods, plus 2 optional units plus dissertation your optional units will need to be one 20 credit unit and one 10- credit option.


Employability

The MSc Marketing Management Top Up is designed to produce graduates with advanced expertise. You may find employment in middle to top management positions in large corporates or small charities, in modern e-businesses or public sector organizations. Successful students from other LSBU marketing orientated Masters programmes have entered into many different types of organizations including multinational and global companies, public sector organizations, charities, and startups.

Students who have undertaken the masters have found it a great addition to their professional Diploma qualifications, enabling them to develop a greater confidence in their work through being able to understand and apply more advanced levels of theory and practice to the marketing and business challenges that they face every day.

Entry requirements

Below are the Level 7 qualifications accepted for entry into the Top–Up.

  • CIM Chartered Post-graduate Diploma in Marketing
  • CIM Professional Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing
  • IDM Diploma in Digital Marketing
  • IDM Diploma in Direct and Digital Marketing
  • IDM Diploma in Digital Marketing with B2B
  • IDM Diploma in Direct and Digital Marketing with B2B

If you have any of the above qualifications you will be accredited with 70 credits. You will need to take 110 credits, which will be made up of Research Methods (20 credits) plus 2 options (1x 20 credit & 1x10 credit) plus a 20,000-word dissertation (60 credits) to meet the overall requirement of 180 credits.

If you also hold either the CIM Chartered Post Graduate in Marketing or the IDM Certificate plus the IDM Diploma, we will be able to give you a further 10 credits based on Accredited Prior Learning (APL). Overall, you will be accredited with 80 credits. You will then need to take 100 credits, which will be made up of Research Methods (20 credits)plus 1 option (20 credits)plus a 20,000-word dissertation (60 credits)to meet the overall requirement of 180 credits.
