MSc in Engineering - Chemistry

General

Program Description

You will learn to design, plan, and optimize chemical and biotechnical processing plants and products – based on technical, resource, and environmental considerations. You will be qualified to run laboratory work as well as to develop and validate analytical measuring methods.

With a master of science in engineering degree in Chemistry, you will be qualified for consultancy assignments as well as research and development tasks within the core competencies that you have acquired through your academic profile.

Program structure

The master's program is a two-year program on top of a relevant bachelor's degree.

First and second semester

In the first year of the master's program you will work theoretically and experimentally with Advanced natural product chemistry, Techno-economic assessment, Sustainable Engineering, Risk Management, Industrial separation and purification technologies, Advanced experimental design and data analysis, Industrial fermentation and modeling of bioprocesses and 10 ECTS elective course.

This will provide you with a broad foundation that qualifies for many different jobs.

Third semester

The next semester you will have Atmospheric chemistry and climate change and Methods in science and elective courses. It is also possible to participate in an In-company project. You have the option to initiate your master thesis in the 3rd semester with 10 ECTS continuing with 30 ECTS in the 4th semester.

Fourth semester

The last semester is dedicated to the master thesis. You will choose the subject yourself. The master thesis will typically be carried out in one of the research groups and/or in cooperation with an industrial company.

Career opportunities

Chemical Engineers will typically be employed in the chemical industry, the food industry or the pharmaceutical industry, in environmental governance, or at laboratories. Here you will be responsible for research, development, production, analyses, and environmental and quality assurance.

With a master of science in engineering degree in Chemistry you will be qualified for jobs as, for example:

• Project manager
• Development engineer
• Manager of the development department
• Researcher
• Analyst
• Head of laboratory
• Teacher
• Consultant
• Head of quality

You could, for example, work in:

• The chemical industry
• The food industry
• The pharmaceutical industry
• Environmental governance
• Power plants
• Laboratories.

Your tasks could be to:

• Design and implement new process engineering plants e.g. for biochemical or food production
• Develop and optimize current plants e.g. for the pharmaceutical industry
• Develop and optimize methods of analysis and biological techniques
• Work as a consultant for private and public companies within chemical engineering related to environmental and work environment issues
• Develop products and processes where chemical issues are significant
• Build and operate reactors
• Design industrial processing of primary biological production e.g. for food or biofuels.

With this program, you are qualified for a job in Denmark or abroad and for studies at Ph.D. level.
