The MSc in Economics provides students with the conceptual tools and advanced analytic techniques to apply economic reasoning to demanding issues in today's private business, public policy, and academic research domains.
The program follows rigorous international standards. Classes are small, taught by internationally recognized professors and industry experts, and focused on advanced economic knowledge and techniques. The program is suited to students with both applied interests and more research-oriented profiles. The MSc in Economics also gives you also the opportunity to pursue a Double Degree or a Joint Degree at a top international school, or an exchange semester.
In addition to the Economics foundation courses, you will also focus on a Major. We offer three applied majors (Macroeconomic Policy, Public Policy and Regulation, and Finance and Banking) and one more theoretical major (General Economics). At the same time, you'll be prepared for the workplace with Leadership Lab activities and internship opportunities. Finally, you'll work on your thesis project and be ready to launch your professional career.
This program is designed to provide you with the academic knowledge, the technical tools, and the practical skills to succeed in a variety of possible careers in the private and public sectors. Graduates pursue high-level careers in international agencies, regulation and competition bodies, and universities, as well as in consulting, finance, strategy and accounting, among other fields.

These courses are designed to structure and consolidate your knowledge, skills and intuition of economics.
Deepen your learning in one area, and acquire knowledge and skills for specific jobs in private or public institutions.
You may take free elective courses outside of your program to complement your area of expertise, or simply explore a topic that interests you.
Leadership Lab is designed to help you develop important competencies for managing and working with people and, therefore, for lifelong employability and growth. You can select among 1) career and employment workshops, and 2) personal development workshops.
International Experience (optional)
To obtain a valuable international experience and further improve your knowledge, you can pursue a Double Degree/Joint Degree or complete an exchange semester in one of CATÓLICA-LISBON’s prestigious partner schools around the world.
Summer Internship (optional)
Students are encouraged to complete a summer internship before or during the MSc program.
The thesis project involves a research methodologies workshop, designed to provide you with advice, resources and useful tools to plan the research for your thesis, and a dissertation.

Ideally, candidates should have an undergraduate degree in Economics, including mathematical and statistical training, as well as intermediate microeconomics.
Outstanding candidates from other quantitative areas will also be considered, but may be asked to do some background reading before joining the program (for the major in Finance and Banking only candidates with an Economics background will be considered).
Candidates must seek to acquire the conceptual tools and training in quantitative methods to understand economic issues and apply economic reasoning to private business, public policy, or academic research domains.
International exposure (exchange, summer school or internship abroad) and extracurricular achievements are also valued by the Admissions Jury.
Double Degree: your passport for an international career
Spend one year at CATÓLICA-LISBON followed by a second year at the partner school of your choice, and get two diplomas.
Double Degree programs offer you the opportunity to gain a deep international experience and to challenge yourself by experiencing two distinctive academic cultures and approaches.
At the end of the program, you will be granted two diplomas – one from CATÓLICA-LISBON and one from our partner school.
A joint degree is a program that has been jointly developed by two international universities and cumulates in a Joint diploma which is officially recognized by all degree awarding partner universities.

Graduates with a non-quantitative degree, must submit the GMAT/GRE result or take the CATÓLICA-LISBON Internal Admission Test. The Admissions Jury reviews your application and makes a decision.
