Objectives and contents
The Faculty of Economics of the University of Italian Switzerland is organizing a joint Master with the High School of Economics and International Relations (ASERI) of the Catholic University of Milan, involving Swiss, Italian and foreign students interested in a curriculum of studies that allows they get a double title: an Italian Master's degree and a Swiss Master's (master's degree). The Master in Economics and International Policies (MEPIN) offers a wide range of scientific tools and specific skills, essential for the understanding of economic-political phenomena related to the globalization of markets.
The bases on which the entire program is developed are linked to the study of economics, law and institutions, and international policies. In addition, multidisciplinary knowledge will be provided to address issues such as sustainable development, market globalization, population aging, migratory phenomena and, more generally, forms of cooperation between public authorities and private economic operators aimed at achieving a common goal, such as the provision of a service or the creation and management of a project.
The partnerships between the public and private sectors are increasingly common in various sectors (health, public utilities, infrastructures, social services and environmental resources) and at all levels (local, national and supranational). In many international organizations, the public-private partnership is a privileged way for the realization of public interest programs related to fundamental issues such as energy, transport or development cooperation projects.
The study of the areas of intersection between public and private, from the local to the global level, requires skills in both the economic and financial sector, both in the public policy field, as well as the knowledge of legal and regulatory aspects related to relations between the parties . Participants are offered a series of courses in the Lugano office and one in Milan. The program is completed with the elaboration of a thesis and with an internship in a national or international institution. The multifaceted and interdisciplinary training offered by MEPIN has enabled its graduates to quickly and successfully integrate into multinational companies, banks and finance companies, local authorities, non-governmental organizations, teaching and research institutes. The graduates of this Master have both multidisciplinary skills and specific knowledge in particular in economics and political science, which allow them to operate in all those sectors in which public and private cooperate.
