Master in Computer Engineering – Mobile Computing
The aim of the MSc in Computer Engineering – Mobile Computing (MEI-CM) is to confer a professional specialization with great emphasis on mobile computing and associated technologies, allowing a series of studies to the holders of a degree in Computer Engineering, and related courses, including the possibility of expertise to professionals in the labor market. To achieve this, a project-based learning approach is used. The implementation of team projects promotes the planning and organization of work, the research, and acquisition of the necessary knowledge as well as the development of autonomy, initiative, critical analysis and evaluation of solutions.
- Holders of a degree or legal equivalent in the area of Computer Science and related fields;
- Holders of a foreign higher degree of education conferred by the first Cycle of studies organized according to the principles of the Bologna Process, by a State adhering to this process, in the areas of Computer Science and related fields;
- Holders of a degree of foreign higher education that has been recognized as fulfilling the objectives of a degree in the areas of Computer Science and related fields, by Council of Scientific-Technical School of Technology and Management (ESTG);
- Holders of an academic, scientific or professional path/skills that can be recognized as attesting the capacity to carry out this cycle of studies, by the Scientific-Technical Council of the School of Technology and Management (ESTG).
The structure of the Master of Computer Engineering – Mobile Computing is divided into two distinct phases. In the first phase, or in the first two semesters, the master provides a solid specialization in computing engineering, and in mobile computing in particular, by attending to theoretical classes and by the integration in working groups. On the second phase, on the third and fourth semesters, students choose among an internship or a dissertation in a specific theme according to their expectations in terms of technical or research paths.
Why choose this program?
Since the beginning of the 21st century, mobile computing is experiencing a tremendous growth and adoption by both industry and society. This technological boom has been requiring skilled professionals given that mobile computing is not just an extension of the static systems but presents new challenges to IT professionals. The continued success of this master program is supported by three main intrinsic reasons:
a) Focus on the three main mobility areas – hardware mobility (terminals and wireless networks), software mobility (mobile agents, ‘cloud computing’) and user mobility (ubiquitous systems);
b) Project-based learning approach –promotes the students inspiration, work-team spirit, and research skills to overcome real-world challenges, while enriching students’ curriculum with prototypes, products, patents and soft skills.
c) Industry or academic prosecution – students might opt for a one-year internship program or by a dissertation. This leads to a 100% student employment where about 10% of students entering in Ph.D. programs.
