Cognitive Behavioural Therapy - MSc part-time

This course is currently under review and may be changing to MSc Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapies for 2015 entry.

The MSc in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy builds on the Postgraduate Diploma (PgDip) and focuses on training in research methods and design. This culminates in the completion, under supervision, of a dissertation based on independent research.

About the course

Independent work is an essential component of study at masters level. Your level of academic performance and ability to work independently will be taken into consideration in your application for the MSc course.

Teaching is delivered using a variety of methods including lectures, seminars, skills training and practice. You will be assessed on the basis of a reflective workbook, a seminar presentation, an essay (including your research proposal) and a dissertation.

Teaching staff on this course hold postgraduate qualifications in research and have experience of publishing in peer-reviewed journals. Teaching groups are small and academic supervision is one-to-one, ensuring there is close contact between tutor and student.

You will build on the knowledge and understanding established on the postgraduate diploma, develop your understanding of research methods and design and enhance your skills of independent research.

  • Research Methods (PSA7007)
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapies Dissertation (CBT7000)

Entry requirements

For entry to the MSc you must have already achieved a good level of academic performance on a postgraduate diploma in cognitive behavioural psychotherapies at the University of Bolton or elsewhere.

You will be interviewed as part of the application process.

If English is not your first language you will also normally need IELTS 6.5 (or equivalent). If you do not have the required English level, you can study English with us from IELTS 4.0 (or equivalent).
