MSc in Biomedical Engineering

Biomedical Engineering integrates the principles of engineering disciplines with biomedical sciences to foster new knowledge and create new innovations in technologies and applications to enhance the quality of healthcare.

The MSc (Biomedical Engineering) programme aims to nurture holistic engineers in healthcare technology development and healthcare. With the growing demand for healthcare innovation in recent years, as well as the projected long-term prominence of healthcare issues in our ageing society, biomedical engineers play crucial roles in the expanding healthcare sector. For example, in times of a pandemic, biomedical engineers contribute to all aspects of tackling the disease, including detection, diagnosis, treatment, prevention, monitoring and surveillance.

Candidature

The maximum period of candidature for full-time study is two years and that for part-time study is four years. Full-time students in our programme typically are able to complete their requirements in one year (candidature period: 2 semesters), while the part-time students take two years (candidature period: 4 semesters). Degree Requirements

The normal graduation requirements for the degree of MSc include accumulating a total of no less than 40 Modular Credits (MCs) and obtaining a minimum Cumulative Average Point (CAP) of 3.0 (equivalent to the Grade of B-) for the best modules equivalent of 40 MCs (inclusive of foundation/core modules, where required). Each graduate module of 39 lecture hours is usually assigned 4 MCs.
