The MSc Occupational and Organisational Psychology is a full-time programme focusing on the psychological processes relevant to the workplace.
Drawing on current and historical theory and research, the programme will enable you to understand, describe, and predict workplace outcomes and to develop ways of improving these outcomes.
The programme features a range of modules based on the new curriculum of the British Psychological Society (BPS), including modules on ‘Well-being at Work', ‘Learning, Training and Development', as well as a module involving placement work experience.
Your learning experience will be enriched by small group lectures and seminars, career support, and a personal tutor.
This is a one-year full-time programme comprised of three terms.
The programme will cover the core knowledge areas that are stipulated by the Division of Occupational Psychology, of the British Psychological Society. These are Learning, Training, and Development, Psychological Assessment at Work, Well-Being at Work, Leadership, Engagement, and Motivation, Work Design, Organisational Change and Development, and Professional Practice.
Throughout the programme, you will explore ways of applying theory to practice and will develop a variety of skills including industry relevant technical skills, research skills, and interpersonal skills.
Unique to this course is a Professional Practice module, which requires you to complete a one-month internship/placement within a human resource function of an organization. This module will enable you to develop your practical and professional skills, as well as to witness the way theory can be implemented into practice. Support in finding a placement will be provided by the Careers & Business Relations team.

Teaching & assessment
The learning and teaching methods will include seminar based lectures, seminar activities, guest lectures, student-led discussions, case study analysis, and other interactive methods of learning.
The course will be taught by occupational psychologists and organizational behavior specialists, who are active industry experts, and who can enrich the learning material with their experiences. These individuals will also be academic members of staff involved in the scholarly activity to support the dissemination of knowledge and contribution to that knowledge.
Assessment will cover both theoretical as well as practical elements of the course.
For instance, you will be assessed on:
- technical skills, e.g. how well you write a business proposal or a personality profile
- communication skills, e.g. how well you articulate and communicate your ideas
- research skills, e.g. through your dissertation

Upon completing this course, graduates will be able to work as internal consultants within HR functions of organizations, such as HR Managers, Learning, and Development Specialists, Recruitment and Personnel Specialists and Talent Management Specialists. Graduates will also be able to work as external consultants, independent practitioners, or academics/researchers.

Typically, we will make an offer to a student holding a minimum lower second class (2:2) UK Honours undergraduate degree from a recognized institution and will assess your application for proficiency in Mathematics, asking for a GCSE Mathematics grade A-C / 9-4. Other equivalent international qualifications from recognized institutions will be accepted.
Applicants who meet the minimum academic requirements will be invited to participate in an interview with academic staff.
We require proof of English Proficiency. For example, we ask for:
- A completed Undergraduate degree studied in English from a majority English speaking country
- IELTS: 6.5 overall, with a minimum of 6.0 in each individual component

Tuition fees are set for the University’s financial year which runs from 1 August to 31 July.
