Our MSc invites students from around the world and UK students wishing to expand their understanding of an overseas market to study the global workplace from a human resource perspective. Looking at employers across the globe, you will use qualitative and quantitative methods to critically evaluate company data, including the analysis of statistical information such as recruitment and retention rates.
You will also measure the success of training, looking at how it benefits staff and what the real return on investment is. Meanwhile, your qualitative data focuses on employee and manager perceptions, employer brand and how a company becomes an employer of choice.
You will gain an understanding of the fundamental principles of HR Management including learning and development in the workplace, people resourcing, HRM performance management and employee relations - covering everything from unions and strikes to discipline and grievance. You will also examine modules with a global flavour such as Competencies for the International HR Practitioner.
Requirements:Applicants should either have a second class honours degree or have equivalent experience or training, normally from within the work environment. All applications should be supported by a reference, either academic or professional.
IELTS 6.0 with no skills below 5.5, or an equivalent qualification. The University provides excellent support for any applicant who may be required to undertake additional English language courses.
Our University welcomes applications from mature applicants who demonstrate academic potential. We usually require some evidence of recent academic study, for example completion of an access course, however recent relevant work experience may also be considered. Please note that for some of our professional courses all applicants will need to meet the specified entry criteria and in these cases work experience cannot be considered in lieu.

You will have the opportunity to network with members of the professional body, The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and will be able to join and attend branch meetings and events, many of which are held at our Rose Bowl, a business hub in the centre of Leeds.
In addition our MSc will include an optional placement working in an HR department and, subject to demand, the possibility of an educational visit to a European country to explore their Human Resource Management practices. This may include visits to factories, governmental institutions and attendance at a European University to attend lectures (in English).
