MSc International Business Dual Award

Our flagship Dual Award is a truly exceptional opportunity to gain two M-level qualifications in just 15 months, giving you a clear competitive advantage. Featuring a highly valuable international internship, as well as study in the UK and abroad, and an in-depth academic project, it's a career-defining course that will change the way you see the world.

This innovative course enables you to achieve two M-level degrees, from two different universities, faster and at a lower cost than taking them one after the other. It's an opportunity to make a major impact on your career in a relatively short period of time, broadening your horizons and giving you sought-after international exposure.

You will begin by exploring the core areas of International Business here at Nottingham Business School. You will then build on this by studying for a term at one of our acclaimed partner institutions:

  • ISCTE in Lisbon, Portugal;
  • KEDGE in Marseille, France;
  • ESC Clermont in France,
  • Brescia University in Italy
  • National Sun Yat-sen University in Taiwan

This is followed by a valuable 12-week internship in the UK or overseas, giving you first-hand experience in an internationally focused role. It's an excellent opportunity to immerse yourself in a different culture or get involved in the international activities of a UK business.

Finally, you will return to Nottingham to undertake an in-depth research project, developing new knowledge in a specific area of interest.

Why choose this course?

  • This degree will enable participants to study business while providing an insight into cultural and international impacts. It will also provide participants with a greater cultural awareness.
  • This pioneering course enables you to gain two M-level qualifications simultaneously.
  • The degree is distinctly multidisciplinary in nature and aims to equip participants with a framework for improving their own management action.
  • The course includes the opportunity to see industry on an international scale by completing a two-week study tour overseas.
  • You will complete a Business Research Project. This is a traditional piece of independent research, creating an academic research paper.
  • You will complete a comprehensive development programme, which includes a short residential team-building course, normally held in the Peak District.
  • You can learn from the best by attending guest lectures from leading organisations. Previous speakers have included representatives from companies such as E.ON, Lego, Experian, Santander, and IBM.

How you’re taught

International Study tour

All International Business Students get the chance to go on a two-week study tour. The cost of the trip is covered by your tuition fees, and all students will be provided with help and support in applying for the necessary visas.

The destination and style of the trip varies each year, but previous destinations have included Lisbon, Brescia and Venice.

While abroad you will have the chance to take part in a number of activities, including industry visits, networking opportunities, attending lectures and seminars at a summer school, and of course some sight-seeing. The trip is also normally linked to your consultancy project, giving you the opportunity to meet the organisation you are working for, and present your ideas directly back to them.

The trip has proven itself to be a key factor in the success of the programme, with students benefiting from the business and cultural aspects of it. Some students have also been successful in securing internships with organisations involved.

Study and support

Teaching and learning methods are centred around interactive workshops which are highly participative in nature and will employ case studies, discussions, business simulations and group activities.

Interactivity is key to our teaching and we are committed to providing courses that adopt teaching methods that are appropriate to the student cohort and the specific modules.

We ensure that support and guidance is in place, especially during the early stages of the course and assessment periods, to help you become comfortable with operating in a student-centred learning environment.

Assessment methods

A range of assessment methods are used across the course, the choice of which reflects the needs and demands of the different types of module. Some modules will assess the ability to work collaboratively in a team and others will assess individual capability. Types of assessment will range from examinations to group presentations including essays, reports, financial analyses, literature reviews and research-based projects.

The interactive nature of the taught sessions offers opportunities to gain feedback on your performance before being formally assessed and increasing use is made of eLearning to further support the feedback process.

Induction

All our courses begin with a comprehensive development programme that will help you prepare for your studies and develop key academic and transferable skills. A key feature is a short residential team-building course, normally in the Peak District.

You will also have opportunities to meet members of the teaching team and other postgraduate students, receive detailed programme information, and gain valuable support and guidance from the library, careers service, international office and Student Support Services.
