IT and information systems are vital for the survival of modern organisations, but we aren’t just talking about technology. The implementation and use of information systems can significantly reshape a business’s structure and processes – it is important that managers of the future combine an understanding of these systems with a working knowledge of management practice.

Drawing knowledge and workplace experience from the Sheffield University Management School and the internationally renowned iSchool, this programme provides the essential theory and critical skills to excel in a managerial role, as well as a comprehensive understanding of information science.

Our MSc in Information Systems Management combines the latest thinking with practical skills you will use in your future employment. Students gain core skills in key management aspects, as well as knowledge on how to design, develop and implement information systems, manage information system projects and the fundamental changes they can lead to.


The Course

Taught full-time over two semesters, followed by a dissertation, students are educated through a series of lectures, seminars, case studies, group work for collaborative learning and web-based discussion groups. Assessment is through individual assignments, group projects, end-semester examinations and a dissertation.

Our team of academics, who also hold consultancy roles in large organisations, incorporate valuable industry knowledge in their teaching and are high-profile members of relevant professional bodies.

The Candidate

Our MSc in Information Systems Management is ideal if you want to develop your managerial understanding and skills in management, both from a generalist view and information perspective. This course is particularly suitable for IT graduates and professionals who want to progress into management, as well as business managers who want to expand their knowledge of information science to compete in today’s business environment.

You will have a good second-class honours degree, or an approved professional qualification. For overseas students, Sheffield University Management School’s standard English requirement is IELTS 6.5 with at least 6 in each part, or equivalent.
