MSc Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Management

Nottingham University Business School

The ability to spot and develop opportunities, bring innovation to an organisation, work creatively and judge the value of ideas when investment conditions are uncertain, are the central themes of this Masters course. Students from all disciplines are welcome to apply.

The course is designed for students looking for careers in business and management. It will also interest those who may start their own business or who may take over a family business. Recent graduates have entered careers such as:

  • consultancy
  • engineering management
  • IT development
  • marketing
  • product development
  • research & development
  • private equity
  • social enterprise
  • academia

The course involves high levels of participation and guided practical learning to translate entrepreneurship, innovation, creativity and management theory into practical management skills. Students are presented with opportunities to:

  • develop venture ideas
  • evaluate new technologies
  • conduct a consultancy project for a local business
  • write business plans
  • understand requirements for gaining venture finance
  • design marketing strategies
  • devise management strategies for high growth.

Students examine case studies, are taught by visiting entrepreneurs, attend lectures and take part in team working, business simulations, group projects and presentations.

Students can customise this MSc by choosing subjects from the Sustainability or International Business pathways. Students hone their skills on a ‘live’ consultancy project by advising a local business on its growth or development strategy and will gain experience presenting findings to senior management teams.

In the summer we offer the opportunity to develop a business plan or write an academic dissertation whichever is most suitable. All students receive close support from our academics or a business mentor.

The course is delivered by our Haydn Green Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
