MSc Computer Networking
The course will equip you with an in-depth knowledge of, and advanced technical and academic skills in, the real-world application of computer networking technologies. It is designed for individuals who require an advanced level of proficiency in computer network administration and specific areas including network systems; grid services and distributed networking; wireless networking; distributed and parallel computing; networking administration and management; secure data communications; emerging technologies; and professional project management.
An optional training course covers network management, server configuration and administration, and computer hardware technology. The course is available during the summer at Barnfield College, Luton, and is complemented by vendor-supported training.
You will have access to our state-of-the-art computer laboratories, with more than 450 workstations, five servers, dedicated network, Linux and robotics laboratories, as well as an overall ratio of computers to students nearly twice the number recommended by the British Computer Society.
Research underpins all aspects of the course. By 2009 the department had attracted more than ¬5m of funding from UK and European funding bodies, and the research in the department is going from strength to strength.
Additionally, the course has a strong appreciation of industrial and real-life needs. The department has won a number of Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) placements with local companies and, in 2006, we launched the Academic into Business Computing centre (ABC) to provide computing students with work experience in a professional environment.
