Introduction

The College of Science and Technology at Southeastern offers numerous high-quality degree programs in many STEM disciplines. Our graduates are highly sought after by regional and national technology companies and are very competitive for placement in postgraduate programs. Our faculty and facilities are world-class, and our classes are typically small, so students receive a great deal of individual attention. We provide a high-quality educational experience at a fraction of the cost of comparable institutions and are situated on a beautiful and dynamic campus with close access to New Orleans and Baton Rouge.

Admissions

Beginning Freshmen from Louisiana High Schools

To be fully admitted to Southeastern, first-time freshmen who graduate from a Louisiana public or private high school must meet the following four criteria:

1. Completion of the Regents High School Core 4 Curriculum, AND

2. Have no more than one developmental course requirement, AND

3. Have a minimum high school cumulative GPA of 2.35 on a 4.0 scale, AND

4. Meet one of the following criteria:

  • ACT composite of at least 21 OR
  • Have a minimum Regents Core 4 GPA as reported by the Louisiana of Education of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale

Note: Students who do not meet one or more of these criteria MAY be admissible through an alternate path. Submit application materials, then contact an admissions counselor to discuss other possible options.

Beginning Freshmen from Out-of-State High Schools or from Home School Programs:

To be fully admitted to Southeastern, first-time freshmen who graduate from an out-of-state high school or from a home school program must meet the criteria in one of the following three options and have no developmental course requirement:

1. Meet the same criteria as students who graduated from a Louisiana public or private high school as listed above, OR

2. Meet all the following criteria:

  • ACT composite of at least 21.
  • Have at least 17 units of the required 19 units of the Regents Core 4 Curriculum.
  • Have at least a High School Cumulative GPA of 2.35 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Have at least a Regents Core 4 GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale and 17 units of the required 19 units.
  • Have no more than one developmental course requirement, OR

3. Have an ACT composite of at least 23, AND

  • Have a minimum High School Cumulative GPA of 2.35 on a 4.0 scale, AND
  • Have no more than one developmental course requirement

Note: Students who do not meet one or more of these criteria MAY be admissible through an alternate path. Submit application materials, then contact an admissions counselor to discuss other possible options.

International Students

All students who are not citizens of the United States or who do not possess a resident alien card are classified as international students.

All foreign nationals applying for admission to Southeastern Louisiana University should contact International Services, SLU 10752, Hammond, LA 70402, USA, for admission information. Foreign applicants must submit the following materials before eligibility for admission can be determined:

  • Application for admission accompanied by a non-refundable $30 (thirty-dollar) U.S. currency fee.
  • Statement of financial responsibility, giving name and address of sponsor. International students are not eligible for Federal (Title IV) financial aid. Each applicant must show that they will be fully supported either by private or governmental sources.
  • An official copy of TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) scores for all whose official language is not English. TOEFL scores will be accepted only from Educational Testing Service, Princeton, New Jersey, USA 08546, not from the applicant.
  • Complete and official transcripts of high school and college work, translated into English.

To be eligible for full admission to Southeastern, international beginning freshmen students must meet ALL of the following criteria:

1. Must have completed a recognized secondary school program with a minimum Grade Point Average of 2.0.

2. Must have taken the TOEFL or IELTS*:

  • Minimum TOEFL scores required - 500 paper-based, 173 computer-based, or 61 internet-based.
  • Minimum IELTS score required - 5.5 overall band.
  • Due to a change in the IELTS to TOEFL conversion scale, the minimum IELTS score required for Spring 2018 or after is 6.0 overall band.

Note* Any student who has studied in the United States for one full year in an academic program is not required to take the TOEFL or IELTS.
