Fordham University, Gabelli School Of Business

The Master of Science in Information Systems (MSIS) program provides technical and business skills to students who plan to pursue a technology leadership career in business.

It is structured along three career-oriented tracks:

  • Business Analytics
  • Digital Business Innovation
  • Enterprise Architecture

Students can complete the MSIS in one year of full-time study or two years of part-time study.

The degree is granted upon the completion of 10 graduate-level courses, for a total of 30 credits. Students must take six required courses (18 credits) and four electives (12 credits).

Core Courses(six courses, 18 credits)

Students with advanced experience or a deep academic background may substitute up to two of these courses with advanced Information Systems electives, with permission of the area chair.

  • IS 7902 Systems Analysis and Design
  • IS 7973 Database Management
  • IS 7955 Project Management
  • IS 7905 Web Applications Development
  • IS 7967 Data Mining for Business
  • IS 7910 Information Systems Strategy and Management (capstone course)

Elective Courses(four courses, 12 credits)

Students must take four elective MSIS courses. To specialize in one of the three career-oriented tracks, students are encouraged to take at least three elective courses within that track, based on the listings below. Students may also, based on a required consultation with the area chair, create an optimal mix of electives across tracks to fit their prior expertise and career goals.

Business Analytics

Students prepare for careers in business analytics, a fast-growing area in all businesses. They will be able to collect, clean, structure, integrate, and analyze data to drive management insight, informed decision-making, and superior business performance. This track provides familiarity with concepts, frameworks, software tools and techniques, and trends in business analytics. Suggested electives include:

  • IS 7978 Web Analytics
  • IS 7980 Business Modeling with Advanced Spreadsheets
  • IS 7985 Data Warehousing
  • IS 7988 Business Performance and Risk Management and Analytics
  • IS 7990 Big Data Analytics

Digital Business Innovation

Prepares students to drive business transformation through digital business technologies. Students will acquire an in-depth understanding of cutting-edge digital business trends, such as e-commerce, mobile commerce, cloud computing, social technologies, and tech startups. Students will be able to understand and exploit disruptive digital innovation. Suggested electives include:

  • IS 7901 E-Business Strategies and Applications
  • IS 7924 Mobile Commerce and Applications
  • IS 7945 IT and Sustainability
  • IS 7978 Web Analytics
  • IS 799H Cloud Computing
  • IS 79XX Special Topics Courses (i.e., Tech Startups, Information Security, Privacy, and Controls)

Enterprise Architecture

Prepares students to architect and build business systems, as well as to implement, manage, and leverage enterprise systems within organizations. Students will be able to architect and manage sophisticated systems that solve business problems and provide the foundations for redesigned business processes, enterprise-wide integration and information sharing, novel services, and innovative business models. This track also includes courses that provide an in-depth understanding of IT applications within specific industries, such as healthcare. Suggested electives include:

  • IS 7922 Healthcare IT
  • IS 7931 Business Process Management
  • IS 7941 Network Applications and Telecom Policy
  • IS 7975 Business Analytics for managers
  • IS 7985 Data Warehousing
  • IS 79XX Special Topics Courses (i.e., Business Applications Development, Enterprise Systems, and Financial Information Systems)
