You can complete your degree in as little as one year on a full-time schedule or at your own pace part-time — either on-campus or online. Designed by and for industry professionals, the MS in Data Analytics and Visualization curriculum focuses on practical applications rather than theory. Our coursework features corporate-sponsored projects that will enable you to solve simulated and real-world business problems, learn best practices, and gain mastery of the latest analytical tools.
Analysts must present their data in effective and compelling visualizations. This course combines the best heuristics for data presentation with hands-on experience in creating spreadsheet charts and data visualizations from a variety of source data. Students will learn how to combine text and visualizations to craft stories that promote deeper engagement with data analyses and conclusions.
Data Product Design
Successful entrepreneurs and consultants create value. Data analysts who can work alongside or act as value architects create more organizational value, more quickly. Today, this means using data, analysis, and experimentation to better understand customer goals and preferences. In this course, students learn analytical frameworks for using data in the service of customer insight, customer development, value proposition refinement, and product development.

The Katz School's MS in Data Analytics and Visualization is ideal for ambitious individuals who want to strengthen their skills in computer science, data science, mathematics, and design in order to leverage data and drive business growth.
All of our students should have a demonstrated passion for working with data. While most of our students will have had some data-related work experience, students without work experience but with strong quantitative and/or design-oriented academic backgrounds are welcome to apply.

As you progress through the Katz School’s 30-credit MS in Data Analytics and Visualization program, you will develop a work-ready portfolio of projects and deepen your understanding of the core principles, patterns, and practices of data science and visualization. The MS can be completed in as quickly as 12 months, or part-time at a pace that makes sense for you. To earn your degree, you must complete 21 credits of required foundational courses, including a capstone project, as well as nine elective courses, which may include an internship.

Andy Catlin - Director, MS in Data Analytics and Visualization
Andy Catlin is an entrepreneur in data analytics and data science who has co-founded several successful startups, including Citigate Hudson (a custom advanced analytics provider now known as twentysix New York), Metrics Reporting (a company that provides job performance data to employers), and Mad Dog Data Science (a provider of process-oriented data for companies). He has led teams that have built analytics applications for the National Football League and several NFL teams, as well as international banks like Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette and ABN AMRO, and other global iconic organizations including Microsoft, Reuters, and Bloomberg.
Successful candidates must exhibit the potential to excel in this demanding field and meet the following qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
Completion of at least one calculus course, one statistics course, and one programming course, each with a grade of B or better.

All MS in Data Analytics and Visualization applicants are required to complete an online challenge exam that will help us evaluate your readiness for the program. We will send you this exam during the application process.
If you lack prerequisite courses or need to brush up on certain subjects before you can begin, you may be conditionally accepted. Full acceptance is contingent upon successful completion of one or more of the following three-week, online workshops:
