From the commercialization of CRISPR-edited genetic material to the development of pesticide-resistant crops, innovations in biotechnology are positively and rapidly impacting the future of humankind in areas of health, food, and fuel. Through Katz’s MS in Biotechnology Management and Entrepreneurship, students have an opportunity to sharpen their knowledge and apply the principles of biological sciences while building their business acumen. They will learn, evaluate, and develop the ability to take an idea from a concept all the way to creating a commercial product utilizing scientific design methods, and financial, ethical, business, and IP models of sound management. ​
The interdisciplinary program offers students an immersive experience where the lines between classroom and real-world blur, through stellar practitioner faculty, for-credit internship opportunities, and a final capstone project with an industry partner.​Progress is measurable, too. Each student will maintain a goal-tracking action plan each semester for the length of their journey at Katz.​
The 36-credit program enables students to design a path best suited for their lives, with part-time or full-time on-campus options, and all evening courses. Classes are project-based and students walk away with a robust portfolio to showcase to future employers.​
At The Katz School, we arm our graduates with the scientific understanding and business savvy needed to synergize ideas into action and to unlock their potential to work successfully across the biotechnology industry. The Biotech master is a recognized STEM degree, so international students may be eligible for extended Optional Practical Training (OPT) to work in the United States for up to 24 months after graduation.
Blend Science and Business to Build a Better World
Merge science or technology knowledge with business skills such as marketing, customer development, analytics, and new business development to work effectively across the biotechnology ecosystem.

Develop an understanding of the legal, regulatory, compliance, and ethical aspects of the field.
The Biotechnology Management and Entrepreneurship master's curriculum is project-based—students will apply their classroom knowledge to real-world simulations and build a robust portfolio to showcase to future employers.
Provides an overview of the activities and knowledge required to lead and administer biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies. Topics include health technology assessment and cost-effectiveness analysis; personalized medicine, pharmacogenomics, and companion diagnostics; drug pricing and reimbursement; governmental payers; patents and intellectual property; and information in health care.
Pharmacology Product Development and Commercialization
Develops a working knowledge of the policies, processes, and procedures for drug discovery, development, and commercialization. Topics cover drug development from bench to bedside, including portfolio and pipeline management; and health economics research.
Intellectual Property, Regulation and Compliance for Biotechnology
Covers an introduction to the legal system, including contract and intellectual property law; an understanding of the key regulatory agencies and areas of compliance impacting biotechnology activities; and a strong foundation in the ethical issues concerning the development and commercialization of biotechnology products. Topics include criminal and civil liability; laws that govern the use, testing, development, and licensing of biotechnology; regulatory agencies; quality assurance; and ethics of research, among others.
Who Should Apply
The program is ideal for recent graduates or working professionals who wish to bridge core science and technology principles with business and entrepreneurship skills. The program provides foundational courses in science and business so that students from any undergraduate major can have a smooth transition into the program.
