Each masters degree program includes coursework and may include a thesis, and is designed by the student in consultation with a departmental adviser. Please note that Graduate Teaching Assistantships are not available to MS students.

The master's degree with thesis requires

  • Twenty-four credit hours
  • Thesis (6 credits) based on original research
  • Satisfactory completion of final comprehensive examination

The non-thesis master's degree requires

  • Thirty-six credit hours
  • Satisfactory completion of final comprehensive examination

Fifth Year Masters (BS/MS)

The Biology department offers the potential for a fifth year Masters degree as part of a BS/MS program, which requires the student complete 6 graduate credits in addition to their undergraduate degree requirements.
