Introduction

Electrical and Electronic Engineering drives many of the technological advances that we see in our fast-changing world, from smart grids and robotics to smartphones and the internet of things. It is an exciting and challenging career choice, characterised by constant personal development, innovation, and invention. The College of Science, Engineering and Food Science (SEFS) at UCC aims to build on the engineering foundations of your undergraduate degree with this postgraduate Electrical and Electronic Engineering (MEngSc) programme. The MEngSc programme will help you to develop advanced engineering skills and introduce you to key innovations in this field. As part of this degree, you will carry out a substantial research project. There is also the opportunity to apply for a paid summer industrial placement. Why Choose This Course UCC Research Institutes The School of Engineering has a close relationship with large UCC research institutions such as the Tyndall National Institute and MaREI, the SFI Research Centre for Energy, Climate and Marine research. Staff from these institutes teach on many of our modules in the School of Engineering and supervise several research projects each year. Our staff are at the forefront of this integrative approach to learning and will support you in making meaningful connections within and between disciplines such as engineering, computing, and technology. Placement or Study Abroad Information There is the opportunity in this program to participate in our work-placement scheme, to develop transferable and professional skills through an internship or placement (paid or unpaid) relevant to electrical, electronic, or microelectronic engineering. Many of our students have successfully obtained paid work placements with well-known high-tech companies that have facilities in the Cork area. Where the opportunity arises, a research project or work placement can take place outside Ireland.
